No, no, no, no!
Just like that, our little moment was gone.
Rocco pushed completely away from me and got back out of the car, leaving me there with a dry mouth, heaving bosom, and a starving libido.
“What are you doing?” I said, frustrated. “You were so close!”
He crossed his arms, looking suspicious. “So close to what?”
“You know . . .” I motioned to the seatbelt. “Undoing my blouse from the seatbelt, what else? I can’t believe you’re giving up.”
Rocco nodded. “That’s exactly what I’m doing.”
“But . . . why?”
He gave me a knowing smile. “You know why.”
“Actually, I don’t. You’re not going to help me get unstuck?”
Rocco’s lips twitched with barely concealed amusement. “It was never about the seatbelt and you know it. Nice try.” He clicked a button on the key fob and laughed as my door automatically closed.
He’d figured out my plan.
Rocco knew I was trying to get him to kiss me first.
And I knew he was trying to get me to kiss him.
What were we going to do now?
Neither of us could make a move.
If we were playing chess, this would be our stalemate.
This changed everything.
ChapterTwenty-One
Rocco
That was a genius move on Beth’s part to snap the seatbelt into place over her blouse, knowing I would not hesitate to practically crawl across her body to help set her free.
Captain Clapton to the rescue.
I almost fell victim to her trap, too.
When Beth put both hands on my abs, I practically went into cardiac arrest right there on the spot and had to dig deep in order to summon the willpower gods to keep me from kissing her luscious lips. I still don’t know how I did it when the wordsscrew the addendumkept a running loop through my mind.
What I really didn’t get was how Beth was able to resist our smoking-hot chemistry and not kiss me when I ran my nose along her neck. I was certain that would tempt her, but the woman had the self-control of a nun in the front row at Magic Mike Live.
I had nobody to blame but myself for being in this mess.
If I hadn’t made her sign the contract, she wouldn’t have come up with the addendum, which meant we would have still been kissing in front of her building at this very moment.
Instead, as I drove us to get some food, neither of us said a word.
What was Beth thinking right now?
She couldn’t have been as frustrated as I was.
