“I promise,” Nick said. “And thanks again.”
I headed to the bedroom to change into my work clothes. One of the advantages of working from home was that I could work in my yoga pants or shorts or whatever I wanted. That would change once I became managing partner since I would be expected to be there regularly, but that was something I would just have to deal with and adjust to.
A minute later, I heard Karma barking in the backyard.
Who knew what Nick and Karma were up to back there?
Maybe Karma saw one of the neighborhood rabbits and was freaking out.
I slipped out of my yoga pants and pulled my work clothes from the closet to change, choosing one of my favorite outfits.
Karma continued to bark, which was starting to annoy me. Nick said she was trained, but it sure didn’t seem like it.
Why was she barking so much?
“No, Karma!” Nick yelled. “Stop that!”
“What is going on?” I mumbled to myself.
I looked out the bedroom window and screamed in horror.
Karma was tearing up my precious rose garden.
I banged on the window. “Stop that!”
I ran from the bedroom, down the hallway, and through the kitchen to the backyard.
I yanked the sliding glass door and stepped outside, marching toward the dog who had just dug up part of my rose garden. The roots were exposed on two of the bushes.
My precious babies.
Both Nick and Karma stood there, frozen, both staring at me. It would be hard to determine which of them had a guiltier face at the moment.
It didn’t matter.
This was all Nick’s fault.
“I didn’t see anything I wasn’t supposed to see!” Nick blurted out, suddenly breaking eye contact with me and looking away.
I shook my head, confused. “What are you talking about?”
He pointed toward me, but still avoided looking in my direction. “You’re not wearing any pants.”
I jerked my head down, and to my horror, I was standing there in my panties.
Shocked, I screamed, causing Karma to bark again.
“Don’t move, either of you!” I ran inside the house, back to the bedroom, and sure enough my business clothes were still on the bed where I had left them earlier.
“I flashed Nick again,” I mumbled to myself, shaking my head in disbelief. “I can’t believe this.”
I slipped into my work clothes and went to the bathroom to double-check that I was fully clothed before heading back out to the backyard.
Nick and Karma hadn’t budged an inch.
“Can I look now?” Nick asked.
“Yes. You can look now,” I said. “I can’t believe what you’ve done.”
