Axel. Drake. Nathan.Their names filled my mouth and etched into my heart. Each letter was carved all the way into the marrow of my bones and burned into my soul. They were branded on every part of me.
With our desires sated, we cuddled on the bed and talked about our plans for the future including opening up a wolf sanctuary here on the mansion’s property. There was enough acreage according to Axel to have plenty of room for real wolves to roam about. And if anyone saw four extra wolves hunting in the woods, they wouldn’t think anything of it.
In less than thirty days, my life had changed so drastically. I was three-times blessed. And with my three cherished loves, I felt like I could do anything. That there was nothing I couldn’t tackle with them by my side. I never had to worry about anything ever again.
Epilogue
"Don't worry, they are going to be okay,” Axel teased me as I paced back and forth along the mansion's long driveway.
"This is their first shift outside of the full moon. What if they forget how to switch back." I sounded like an overbearing helicopter Mom and I wore the badge proudly. "They said they'd only be gone an hour, it's been two."
"They're fine." Axel pulled me to him, wrapping his arms around my chest and holding me in place.
His scent enveloped me and had me yearning to put the kids to bed early tonight.
"Nathan's looking out for them."
"And he's the one who lost control and bit me, remember?" Though it was because he was protecting me from a bear and had been severely injured my logical mind countered. My emotions weren't listening though.
"You're never going to let him live that down, are you?"
"Not if he—"
"Mom, Mom, guess what Riley did?" Conner's white hair caught the sunset and his amber eyes so much like his dad's, sparkled.
"I caught a fish with my teeth." My daughter skipped up the path. "Conner wouldn't even try."
"Did too."
"Where's Meghan?" I asked, hugging both of them. "Grandma and Aunt Dawn are going to be here any second for dinner."
"Do you even need to ask?" Nathan shook his head with a smile as he trudged up the path covered in mud along with our youngest daughter who looked like a squirming mudbug rather than a child.
Even her red hair, so much like Nathan's, was coated in mud. In their wolf form, all of their fur was white like mine and they always loved to see how dirty they could get.
I couldn't help but laugh. "All right, all of you into the shower."
Groans answered me. I raise onto my tiptoes, giving Nathan a peck on his lips, the only place that didn't have mud. He went to grab me, but I danced out of his reach, and said, "Not until you're clean."
"I'll hold you to that."
A shiver of pleasure washed through me. "Hope you do."
The muddy quad rushed into the house just as my mom and sister pull up the drive. They exited the car and joined us.
"Did I just see my grandchildren or mud monsters?" Mom asked with a smile.
"Both," I answered and hugged her. "Come inside, Drake is making dinner."
Dawn inhaled with a dreamy look on her face. "I can smell it from here and he's going to have me breaking my diet, isn't he?"
"Probably." I hugged her and we walked inside with Axel beside me.
While we ate, we caught up on the last week. Dawn had gotten a new job at a law firm and Mom was taking college classes to get her degree. Now that I knew the truth about my dad, Mom had opened up so much more to me. It was like the secret she'd held onto had weighed her down and now she'd been cut free. She even looked happier and her eyes had lost the dark circles under them. Stuffed from Drake's amazing meal, we played Rummy with the kids. Until Conner and Meghan started flinging the cards to see who could get theirs to sail farther and Riley snuck off to read her favorite Nancy Drew book for the tenth time.
Dawn and I cleaned up the kitchen.
"You're so lucky, Brook." Dawn handed me a soapy pan. "Three husbands. I don't think I'd know what to do with myself."
