"You breaking your promise? Your vow?" Axel leaned in and I backed away, bumping into Nathan. "Didn't think you'd be the kind."
He struck a deep chord in me. I hated whenever someone broke their word to me and this didn't involve sex, so how bad could it be? No matter how much I tried to convince myself, terror still stuck to me.
I moved off Nathan and climbed out of the limo. From the outside, the place looked massive with three stories and lots of windows. It had to be longer than three football fields.
Drake opened the door, but I stood on the edge of the porch, frozen. Like if I crossed the threshold, there was no going back. I'd be doing this not just with my words. The mansion was dark inside and there was a finality here that had me backing up a step.
"We don't have time to coddle you," Nathan said and threw open the door.
"Inside, now," Axel barked.
I flinched, turning around to run, but he grabbed me again. This time I screamed, twisting and trying to get free of his grip. His fingers dug into my skin, and he hauled me forward. Then he threw me inside. I fell on my stomach, skidding across the polished wood floor. The door slammed closed, echoing like a sealed tomb.
“You bastard.” I pushed up and spun around to face them.
Axel and the other two were still outside. A bolt slid into place and my skin crawled—it was a double-key lock and there was no key on my side.
"What are you doing?" I strode to the door, turning the knob, but it wouldn't open. "Let me out."
"This is for your own good," Drake said. "You need to calm the fuck down."
Somehow, despite this huge place, I felt like the walls were closing in on me. They couldn't leave me in here alone. I dashed to the window and tried to open it, but it had a lock on it that required a key. I tried another and another. Then flipped on lights so I could freaking see and found a kitchen with a backdoor, but it too was locked.
I ran around to the front again. The limo was still parked out front, but there was no sign of any of them.
"Let me out." I slapped my hand against the door.
Nothing.
Wait, my cell phone.I pulled it out of my back pocket and dialed 911.
"Please enter the password for any outside calls," an automated voice said.
"This is an emergency. Patch me through to the police."
"I'm sorry," said the female robotic voice. "That is not the passcode. Try again."
My hands shaking, I hung up and dialed Dawn.Answer, answer.I chewed on my lip as the line rang.
"Please enter the password for any outsi—"
"Shit!" Maybe a text would go through. I typed a message to my sister instead—
Emergency, I'm locked inside a mansion. Get me out.
But I didn't even know where here was. I had to give her something to find me.
We went outside of Vegas, south I think. Mansion is down a long road and surrounded by trees.
My cellphone's three dots showing sending a message popped up. I stared at them, willing them to go through.
The undeliverable message popped up.
I'm not going to give up that easily.I sent a message to my jerk fiancé who got me into this mess and the same undeliverable message showed.
Letting out a choked cry, I threw my phone on the leather couch. I wrapped my arms around myself and sank to the floor. Tears spilled down my cheeks, and I scrubbed them away. I had to figure this out.
So, okay, no calls, no texts in or out probably. There had to be something else I could do. Some way to get out of here.
