“Did you guys save me any?” I joked. Then my heart thumped loudly against my chest at what I’d said. My mom would have reprimanded me that I was being rude.

“Yep, there’s plenty.” Drake nodded to the kitchen without batting an eyelash.

“Great.” I swallowed and took an empty plate next to the stove. Before I knew it, my food was piled on just as high as theirs. I sat between Axel and Drake with Nathan across from me.

We ate in silence, and I cleaned my plate in no time.

“Want more?” Drake asked and his sexy tone had me dumfounded for a moment that he was talking about food and not foreplay.

“No, thanks. I’m good.”

Nathan stood; his gaze averted from me. “I’ll clean up.”

“I’ll help.” I pushed up to stand when Axel let out a growl and I froze.

“Brook, you stay right where you are.” Axel leaned back in his chair, folding his arms over his chest.

Was this another werewolf thing? Like if I bolted, would Axel and Drake shift into wolves and chase me? The thought should have left me terrified, instead, I was only more excited.Yup, there is definitely something wrong with me.

“Okay.” I mimicked his pose and caught the smirk that Drake did next to me. “I’m listening.”

“Since Nathan broke our sacred law, of biting you without permission—”

“It wasn’t his fault.” I don’t know why, but I felt the need to defend him. “He was injured and—”

Axel slammed his fist down on the table and I jumped. “He knows better no matter how injured or sick he was. No wolf is allowed to bite a human without prior approval.”

“Wait, you’re mad because he bit me first, aren’t you!” I looked from him to Axel and back.

Drake dropped a pan in the kitchen but picked it up quickly and didn’t say anything.

“And you’re the Alpha of this group and wanted first dibs.”

This was a power-play and Axel had been the first to take me on a date, the first to bring me to orgasm, and had even been the leader when we played the poker game with Stephen.

The muscle in his jaw twisted and I raised an eyebrow.

“I’m right, aren’t I?”

“Brook,” Nathan whispered from the kitchen. “Don’t push him.”

“Why not?” My voice raised with my anger. “Wasn’t that the point of all of this? Of this bet? To see which of you would fuck me first—which I’d choose to let you bite me once I believed you all were werewolves?” I forced a laugh. “And if I didn’t agree, you’d find another way. Tell me I was half-werewolf.”

“Are you done?” Axel asked, but there was a hint of amusement or something in his amber eyes.

“No. I want you to tell me the truth about what’s going on. Why I’m here.” Cause something in my gut told me they weren’t being truthful. And why should I believe them when they’d lied about being human.

“I told you.” Drake touched my elbow. “Your father—”

“Was human,” I finished for him. “There is nothing showing anything different.”

Axel sighed. “You’re right. We haven’t been truthful to you. But our first meeting would’ve had you running away if we had told you that we were werewolves, and you were one too.”

He was right, but that didn’t mean I had to acknowledge that.

“You’re as stubborn as him, you know.” Axel huffed out a breath and my pulse spiked. “Come with me.”

“Where?” I hesitated, standing up with him.
