“Don’t let her burn out.Folks are flocking here because they are desperate. That means eventually someone will do it in bad faith.”

“I know. Can we get your help if they do?”

“Of course.I have been brushing up on the contract law involved, but I know you two have Dorn on speed dial.”

“Yes, but I think you would be more acceptable to the court.”

“Race issues?”

“Yes, but I am honest, as is Dorn.He mentioned it to me.”

“Ah, in that case, I would love to lend a brief if necessary.”

Vaia hugged her again and then said, “He didn’t give you breakfast?”

“He tired himself out holding back. So, drive through it will be, then a nap and some work I have been putting aside.”She waved and got into her car, driving down to the gates that opened to let her out.She was nearly home with her takeout when a car pulled up next to her at the light. She looked over, and a female orc with red eyes pulled out a gun and shot her.Bella heard the shots ring out, and the light turned green. She drove toward Danforth General, and when her vision started blurring, she pulled over, put on her hazards, and dialled emergency services. She spoke as clearly as she could, but once she gave her location, things got super fuzzy.

Cars were passing hers, and it was funny to think how close they could be to a dying woman and not notice a thing. The lights of the ambulance finally flickered and then became a solid strobe approaching her.She grabbed her purse with a flopping hand, and as the paramedics got to her, they cut through her seatbelt and eased her onto a gurney.

Agents arrived and asked if she knew who shot her.She couldn’t speak but held out her hand, and mist formed the image of the young orc woman with the gun aimed at her, and another image without her when the agent pulled out his phone. She showed them as many images as she could, but then grey mist wrapped around her.

Her creature would keep her alive, but it was going to hurt.

Chapter Four

Elida drove past thecar with the hazards and wished them better luck with their engine as she headed to the tea house.

When she arrived, she walked up and said, “A reservation for Elida.”

The young woman smiled.“Yes, miss.Your other party has arrived.”

She followed the young lady and grinned as Wymol sat, checking his phone while he sipped a cup of tea.Elida approached the table, and Wymol set his phone down, rose to his feet, and held her chair out for her.She smiled.“You are punctual.”

He leaned in and kissed her swiftly.“As are you.”

He returned to his seat.“So, did you have an easy drive?”
