“History?” Bunny’s eyes were practically glowing at this news and she leaned forward, her pen poised over the clipboard.

“Yes, it’s a small town. We grew up together and Austin and I weren’t always friendly.”

“That is definitely what I heard in town,” Bunny said, tapping her chin with her pen before she looked down and began scribbling furiously. “This is going to be awesome. Just wonderful.”

“Sorry?” Daisy asked.

“Yeah, what’s that mean?” I asked.

“Oh, just that this is going to give us so many options! I have the best idea for the rest of filming.” She glanced at the film crew and waved a finger at them. “Pack it up. We’ve got plans.”

Daisy leaned forward, palms flat on the table and looked at them in confusion. “Plans? What plans?”

“Yeah, what happened to getting B-roll footage,” I asked, pointing at the still-full table. “We haven’t even touched any of this. I thought you needed material for the introduction.”

“Oh, we got that. Don’t you worry. I’ve got a few things to do before we get underway this week, so we’ve got to run.” When we looked like we might protest, Bunny held up a hand and gave us what I knew she thought was a reassuring smile, but came out as fake as that low-cal sweetener people kept telling me I needed to try in my baked goods. “Look, how about you just enjoy a free dinner. Regroup after that little splash with Daisy’s dad, and meet us bright and early tomorrow morning? I’ll meet you at your house, okay?”

Daisy and I gave each other a quick look. “Sure thing,” I said when Daisy nodded at me.

Bunny whipped out her pen and said, “Okay, where is the house?”

“Main street,” Daisy answered.

“Fifth street,” I replied.

Fuck.

“What?” Bunny asked, brows furrowing. Even the film crew that was busy tearing down the lights around us stopped to look and I felt my cool crack. I’d had the answers until now, but I hadn’t thought about her meeting us atourhouse. There was no our house. How had I overlooked that?

“I mean...we're renovating at our main house so we’re bunking over at Main street.”

“Main house? You have two houses?” Bunny asked.

“Of course we have two houses. We only just got married, you know? No need to sell when property is an investment,” Daisy supplied smoothly. I said a silent prayer at her taking action because I had zero answers to Bunny’s question. “We’re really glad we do too since the pipes burst at the main house. We’ll meet you in the square tomorrow though, okay? Gotta go by my Dad’s early before I do anything.”

Bunny’s lips pursed but she nodded all the same. “Sure thing. Meet you in the square, at say, eight am sharp?”

“Totally.”

“You got it.”

The film crew was done collecting their equipment and the men were already turning to leave but Bunny stopped and held up her pen at us. “Oh, and do us all a favor and pack your warmest coats and anything you might need for an overnight stay in the woods.”

Daisy narrowed her eyes at Bunny. “What?”

“Just a precaution. You’ll be so thankful that you do.”

“Are you sending us to the woods?” Daisy asked, looking pissed. Whatever Bunny was planning, I could tell Daisy didn’t like it. I didn’t either, but the both of us fighting it wouldn’t be good for filming, so I kept my mouth shut while the women went back and forth.

Bunny shrugged. “Might be.”

“We didn’t agree to that.”

“How does another ten grand sound?” she offered.

Daisy went quiet and looked over at me. We stared at each other for a second. I was, once again, able to tell what she was thinking. She wanted to do it. I wanted to do it for her.Ten-fucking-grand.

We were doing it.
