Steve closed his eyes with a groan, pulling her legs around his waist with a jerk. “God, baby,” he whispered in her ear while he worked his zipper down. She stared up at him and looked over her shoulder to see if anyone could see them, but a row of cars shielded them from view. His bike was tucked into the far corner of the lot, giving them a measure of privacy for what Jordyn could feel was about to happen.

“No one’s gonna see, doll,” he assured her, running a hand down her leg. His hand wrapped around her ankle as he took in the heels on her feet. “All for me?” he asked, looking back up at her. Her heart was hammering in her chest, and she smiled, kissing him.

“All for you,” Jordyn agreed, and he smiled at her before he leaned forward and caught her bottom lip between his teeth and kissed her teasingly. “I missed you,” she mumbled, against his mouth while she raised her hips to help him pull her underwear down her legs.

“I missed you, too. So much,” Steve replied, sucking in a breath when she slipped a hand into his jeans, her fingers teasing. He reached into his front pocket and pulled out a condom, his eyes on hers, and Jordyn pulled back with a frown.

“Did you know I was coming tonight?” she asked quietly, as he kissed his way up her neck.

“No, baby,” Steve moaned, his teeth grazing her jaw. “So glad you did, though. Missed you so much, doll.”

“So you just had...that? Just because?” she asked, shoving his shoulders away from her. Her eyes were fixed on the condom in Steve's fingers because she knew he hadn't put it in his pocket with her mind. He’d put it there before coming out to have fun, before getting ready for a night of partying and not at all thinking he would see her tonight.

She’d known from Dora that he hadn’t known she would be there, and just now he’d confirmed that. Jordyn wanted to throw up at the realization but she kept it together.

“Had what?” he asked, blinking at her.

“Don’t what me!” she seethed, wiggling out of Steve’s hands and jerking her underwear back up from her knees. “Oh my god!” she cried, shaking her head. “How am I this stupid?” She stepped away from, albeit a little shakily due to the alcohol she’d consumed and from the adrenaline rush of what she’d nearly done with Steve. And in a parking lot!

“What the fuck, Jordyn?” Steve stepped closer to her.

“Don’t!” she yelled at him, holding a hand out, stopping him from coming any closer. If he came closer to her she didn’t know what she might do. She might give right into him if he touched her again, even knowing he’d been anticipating having sex with someone that wasn’t her. “You didn’t know I was coming tonight, but you justhappenedto have a condom ready to go?”

“Oh, come on, Jordyn,” he sighed, zipping his pants back up.

“No, you, come on, Steve! You pulled it right out of your pocket,” Jordyn backed away from him and tried not to cry. “I’ve been agonizing over what I said to you for a week because it wasn’t fair to you. It wasn't ok for me to project my shit on us like I did. I've been sick about itfor a week!I even went by your work and nothing! I don’t even hear a word out of you, absolutely nothing after I left that stupid note and—and you were having the time of your life in there tonight!” She jabbed a finger at the bar before she pointed at the condom in his hand with an angry laugh. “And apparently completely over me!”

“Jordyn, it’s not like that,” Steve said, shoving the condom back into his pants.

“Really?! It’s not like that? What is it like then? You just got ready tonight and brought that along for fun? ” She backed up another few steps, pulling out her phone to text Dora. “I fucking left you that note, and you had nothing to say, but the second someone else gives me attention, you show up?! You suddenly remember me?” She turned her back on him and fired off the text to Dora, letting her know she would be waiting by the car.

“Come back here, Jordyn!” Steve barked when she stalked off into the darkness.

“The fuck I am!” she yelled back, storming forward. She was so angry the cold she’d worried about earlier felt like nothing to her at all, and she was glad she’d drank as much booze as she had. She’d be able to wait for as long as it took Dora to get her text and get to her no problem, and so help her if Steve came within five feet of her while she was waiting.

“Jordyn!” he yelled, taking off after her. When he was close enough, he gripped her arm and swung her back around to face him. “Talk to me. Now, Jordyn!”

She saw red the second his hand touched her. “Get off me!” Jordyn shoved him away and wiped at the tears that had started to fall down her cheeks. “Don’t you dare touch me! You don’t care, so stop acting like you do!”

“What are you talking about?!” Steve yelled, trying to still her flailing hands and pull her against him, but she refused to let him near her.

“You don’t get to touch me anymore. You had that condom for someone else! Not me!!” Jordyn screamed, spinning away from him. “Not me,” she said again, her chest heaving from the sob that had caught there. She wanted to cry, to keep screaming at him, but her pain and anger were crashing into each other so violently, the edges of each overlapping and blurring until all she could do was tremble as she stared the man she loved in the eyes.

“I just—look, it doesn’t mean anything! I wasn’t… I wasn’t going to fucking use it. It’s not mine.” She barked out a laugh but he kept going. “It was Rob’s birthday!” he stammered, and then he shook his head. “What note, Jordyn? Doll?” he asked in a gentler tone. But Jordyn wasn’t listening anymore because she was rushing into Dora’s arms. Tina put an arm around Jordyn, and the trio walked away with the other two women glaring at Steve as they led Jordyn away to Dora’s car. Jamie burst out of the club and stopped Steve when he tried to follow Jordyn.

“Let her go,” Jamie sighed, wondering if he was going to regret getting in Steve’s way. He expected his friend to shove him away and go after Jordyn, but he didn’t.

Steve just looked confused.

“What note?” Steve whispered, looking anything but angry. He looked downright lost because he had never gotten a note from Jordyn.

In fact, he hadn’t so much as heard from her until tonight.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Steve shook his head, his hands clasped behind his neck, while he paced in the parking lot of The Velvet Throne. His mind was racing while he tried to process what had just happened. Something wasn’t adding up.

“Dude, what the fuck was that?” Jamie asked, coming to lean against the brick wall that Steve was now staring at.
