Steve let his forehead fall against the car window and closed his eyes.“You two are out of control.”

“We know,” Jordyn and Jamie said in unison.

The rest of the ride to Jordyn’s apartment was a blur of laughter and plans. Jordyn couldn’t remember a happier ending to a day than this little piece of being in Steve’s world.

Chapter Twenty-Five

“Stevie,if you keep kissing me, we're never going to get everything on the list,” Jordyn laughed, ducking away from Steve’s outstretched hands. They were in the grocery store picking up fixings for what would be a killer bowl of guacamole, but so far, their grocery shopping had consisted of Jordyn trying to stay focused on picking produce while Steve was definitely focused...just not on groceries.

Steve’s interest was squarely on how much of Jordyn he could touch or kiss, and the man had a one track mind.

He sighed and caught her around the waist, turning her to face him. “Grocery shopping takes forever, doll. I need encouragement to go on.”

She rolled her eyes. “We’ve only been here ten minutes.” Jordyn gestured to the barely filled grocery cart and crossed her arms, pinning him with an accusing look. "And at the rate, we are going to be here all day before I have everything I need.”

His lips twisted into a grimace but he sighed with a quick nod. “Fine, fine,” he said, and moved to let her go, but a second later he pulled her back to him with her back against his chest.

Jordyn whacked his hand with the shopping list in her hand. “I adore you but I will maim you with this list if you stop me from getting what I need.”

Steve chuckled and bent his head low, his breath puffing warm against her skin. The sensation made her shiver, and Jordyn forced herself not to give into him and drag him from the store and back to her apartment. She needed groceries. She had to finish this guacamole at the very least and—

“Don’t you expect to start making lunch as soon as we get home.”

Her pulse sped up and her eyes drifted closed at the promise she heard in his voice. “Oh yeah?” she dared to ask. Her mind was already racing with what exactly might happen to her other than preparing lunch.

“Yeah. I’m gonna put you on your back, first thing,” Steve whispered, dragging a hand up her side.

Jordyn shivered in anticipation. “Promises, promises,” she giggled, turning her face to kiss his jaw.

Steve bit his lip closed and made a frustrated sound at the brush of her lip. “Tease,” he joked, but he let her go and made a face at the bin of avocados next to him. “All right, so how the hell am I supposed to do this, doll?” He gestured to the bin with a dubious look and picked one up tentatively. "These things all look like dragon eggs to me."

Jordyn snorted at Steve's comment and joined him in looking over the avocados. "You know that's a pretty apt description of what they look like, actually. Okay, so see how this moves?” She reached out touching the avocado he held in his hand and wiggled the stem still left in the avocado.

“Yeah…” Steve made a wary face but still nodded.

“Okay, this is what you want to have happen so that you know it’s ripe.”

Steve grabbed a plastic bag from beside them and dropped the avocado in it. “All right, one down...how many more do I need to find?”

“Just find like…12 more of these, and we’ll be good to go,” Jordyn replied.

“A dozen more?” Steve gaped at her. He looked at the bag in his hands and shook his head. “I’m supposed to find twelve ripe avocados and make sure they wiggle?”

“Yes, they better wiggle.”

“Oh god.”

She waved a hand and shrugged. “Well, I did say we were bringing guacamole to the Lee's cookout tomorrow,” she said, stressing thewe, and added, “that’s why we need so many. You are doing this for the greater good, Stevie. The greater good.”

“Fine, fine. For you.” Steve pulled her close, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

Jordyn grinned and waved the list at him. “I’ll be back, okay? I just gotta grab a few things…” When he made another face at her, Jordyn added, “It’ll make things go faster, I promise, Stevie. Then we can get back to my place and have some fun.”

He perked up at her words and turned towards the bin with a resolute nod. “I got this. Go on with the rest, doll.”

She moved close and kissed his cheek before turning and hurried towards the nearest aisle—the spice aisle. If she was going to make a stellar dish of guac, she was going to need the right kind of spices. She was going down her list of spices and daydreaming of just how much “fun” they could have before she would have to pay attention to the dinner she wanted to make. She hadn’t really been able to try making dinner for them again, not since the night Alex and his posse had ruined it for them. Jordyn was aiming to try again, but the meal she was thinking about making, stuffed bell peppers and a casserole, meant that she needed to prep things if she wanted to get it all cooking in time for dinner. Once she grabbed all the spices she needed, she gave herself a quick shake, she’d just been about to charge off towards the bread, but if she did she might forget the most important thing she needed for that night.

“Right, produce. You need to get the bell peppers, and then we can worry about the cornbread stuffing.” She turned on her heel and made a beeline back towards the produce. She didn’t trust herself to keep her mind on the shopping list if she got back into Steve’s orbit. Better to have it all in her basket before she met back up with him just to be on the safe side, and that meant snagging the bell peppers now. She had just exited the aisle with a smile on her face at getting another chance to kiss Steve when she saw that a woman had approached him. For some reason the look on Steve’s face stopped her dead in her tracks. The vibe was off...something wasn’t right. She bit her lip and took a quick stutter step back to watch from around the corner.
