“Yes, yes you will!” Jordyn clapped her hands and bounded off the couch. “That’s what we’ll do tonight,” she called her over a shoulder as she ran into her room to change clothes.
“Where you going?” he yelled after her.
She stuck her head out of her room with a huff. “To put on pool-learning attire. Duh. I can’t go out like this,” she said gesturing at her leggings and tank top.
“And what does one wear to learn pool?” Steve laughed, taking in the very serious look on Jordyn's face.
“That remains to be determined, but I’m thinking actual pants would be a good start,” Jordyn said. Even if she didn’t know how to play pool, she knew hanging out in her apartment definitely had a much looser dress code.
He scoffed in response. “Pants are overrated,” Steve argued with a wave of his hand when she disappeared back into her room. Jordyn rolled her eyes, but smiled because she knew exactly what she was going to wear. Hurrying over to her closet, she shoved clothing around until she found what she was looking for: a navy blue and white polka dot dress that hugged every curve just right and ended a few inches above her knees, with a strapless sweetheart neckline she knew made the most of her cleavage.
“Yes, pants are indeed overrated,” she joked to herself when she saw her reflection in the full-length mirror in the corner of her room. Diving back into her closet, she grabbed a pair of wedge sandals to go with the outfit.
When she had them on, she gave herself an approving nod and stepped into the hallway. “What was it that you said about pants?” she asked, walking slowly into the living room.
Steve looked up from the text he’d been sending Jamie about joining them for pool and beer, and his mouth dropped open when he caught sight of Jordyn. “I’d tell you, but I forgot how to speak,” he said, vaulting over the couch to get a better look. “Doll, you look like a pin-up girl.”
“I know,” Jordyn grinned and gave a little spin. She liked the appreciative look in his eyes, especially right now, with his jaw practically on the floor. “So you like it, then?” she asked, turning back around to face him to see that he was craning his neck to get a better look at her ass.
“I love it,” he said, his eyes moving slowly up the length of her body. “I’m going to have to beat everybody off with a pool stick with you looking like this.”
She tapped him lightly on the chest and a wink. “I think I might enjoy seeing that.”
“Yeah?” Steve asked, his voice dropping to that familiar deep octave that made her pulse race. She gave him a nod, and he took a step toward her, catching her wrist and tugging her towards him. “We’ll see how much you enjoy what I do to you when we get back here tonight.” He grinned, and her mouth parted, and her breath caught in her throat. “And we definitely won’t be needing pants for that.”
Jordyn blushed. “Well, if you want to make good on these pantsless night activities, you better get a move on,” she chastised. “We’re burning daylight.”
“Fine, fine, but if you’re going to be dressed up like that, we aren’t taking the bike,” he said, firing off a text to ask Jamie for a ride. “Jamie will pick us up and take us to Josie’s.”
“Josie’s?” she asked, trying to place the name, but she couldn’t think of a single place she knew by the name.
“Yeah, best place for pool in town,” he said absentmindedly, looking down at Jamie’s newest text. “He’ll be here in a few.”
“Great! That means I have time for lipstick,” she exclaimed, shooting past him into the bathroom in search of the red lipstick she knew would perfectly set off her outfit. She was applying it carefully when he appeared behind her.
“Going to have to break a pool stick for sure,” he mused, leaning against the doorframe, his eyes on her.
She winked at him, pleased she was able to pull off the sexy look while not smearing her lipstick. She had just finished swiping on a coat of mascara and blush when a knock at the door prompted him to push away from the doorway, but he reached out to run a lingering hand down her arm before he went to answer it. The featherlight touch made her shiver, and she reached out placing her hand over it, closing her eyes as she took a deep breath. How had she gotten this lucky? How did he manage to make her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world with one touch?
Jordyn opened her eyes and smiled at her reflection. She could hear Jamie and Steve talking in the living room. It was time to go, time to get a little piece of Steve’s world for her own. Checking her makeup one last time, she nodded in approval and flipped the light off.
“Holy pin-up, Batman.” Jamie gawked when she entered the room.
“Thank you,” Jordyn said with a nod, grabbing her purse off the kitchen table.
“You’re very welcome, sweetheart,” Jamie said, his eyes following her. He shook his head and nudged Steve. “You know, you’ll have to beat them off with a stick tonight.”
“Yeah, I know.” Steve ran a hand over his face. “Good thing we’re playing pool.”
Jordyn rolled her eyes and linked her arm through Steve’s. “Oh, come on, you two. It’s just a dress and a pair of heels. Nothing to get worked up about. I’m sure no one will even notice.”
And Jordyn remained fairly confident about her statement, at least until she walked into Josie’s and realized how wrong she was. It was busy, crowded, and loud, but it was easy to see that Jordyn had already attracted attention from the male patrons of the bar, of which the majority of Josie's patrons consisted of.
“You were saying?” Steve asked, his hand moving to the small of her back. The three of them threaded their way through the crowd, toward an empty pool table Jamie had just spotted.
Jordyn couldn’t help but laugh. “Oops?”
Steve shook his head and put an arm around her shoulders, drawing her closer. “Just hang around Jamie while I get us a couple of beers, all right?” he said, glaring at a man who passed by a little too close.
