Jordyn said nothing but she sat up to watch him as he pulled the undershirt off and crawled onto the bed next to her, his boxer briefs already balled up in his fist as he tossed them over his shoulder. She cleared her throat and the look on her face was suddenly nervous, not sated. Something was up if his girl wasn’t looking post-orgasm satisfied anymore.
Steve reached out and touched her face. “What is it?”
“I…um, I got on birth control. Do we have to use a condom?” Jordyn asked him, quietly. He went still, pausing in the middle of making his way up her body.
Steve swallowed hard. “No, we don’t have to. I got tested last week, and I’m clean…” His voice trailed off. He’d gone on a lunch break when he realized that things were not just serious with Jordyn, but perfect. They were exactly what he wanted and that meant that, as serious as they were, he wanted more. Simply telling her and expecting her to trust him that he was clean after the number of partners he’d had felt wrong. “I can show you the paper, you know, if you want,” he added, trying to sound reassuring.
“I don’t want to see a stupid paper,” Jordyn whispered, reaching for him eagerly. “I trust you.”
“Let’s go slow,” Steve told her. He ducked his head and met her eyes feeling vulnerable. He’d felt soft around Jordyn, but this was different. This felt big, it felt like everything was changing between them, like it was the biggest thing that had ever happened between him and another person.
This moment was everything.
He needed to go slow with her.
“Slow?” Jordyn furrowed her brow but paused, taking in his expression. “I…okay,” she agreed and was rewarded by one of his easy smiles. They were smiles he only brought out when he was relaxed, ones only family had seen, but now there was Jordyn, and he gave her that easy smile eagerly.
“I’ve never done this without a condom,” Steve confessed, running his fingers down her side. “I want to go slow because I want to remember every last thing about it. About what it's like being with you like this. How it is between us tonight.”
Jordyn’s eyes widened and then she smiled. “So I get a first with you, too?” She grinned up at him, reaching to cup his cheek.
“You do, baby,” Steve replied and caught her hand in his like he had the first night, pressing a kiss into her palm.
Chapter Twenty-Four
“You sure youwant to go out tonight?” Steve gave Jordyn a doubtful expression. They were sitting together on her couch early Saturday morning. It had been a peaceful start to the day with morning sex, a late breakfast, and then maybe a little more fooling around, okay, a lot of fooling around. They had passed into the afternoon happy and content, and Jordyn might have been fine with that...if they hadn’t done it the Saturday before, and the one before that. She’d noticed Steve looking at his phone when he’d been making coffee.
“Texting, Jamie,” he’d told her when he caught her looking curiously. “Got into some trouble with the guys we run with.”
“Trouble?” Jordyn asked, worried about Jamie, but Steve waved his hand when he noticed the concern in her eyes.
“Not real trouble...just hungover now, mostly. They all had a great time, doll. No worries, okay?” He’d winked at her and went back to the coffee, tossing his phone on the counter as he did so.
Jordyn’s eyes had followed the phone, and she bit her lip, wondering what he was passing up being with her every weekend and nearly every night. She loved having him with her and couldn’t think of another way she wanted to wake up than pressed to his side, but what if he was missing his friends?
She hadn’t liked that thought.
It had plagued her all morning and into the afternoon they’d spent together, which brought them to where they were now. Steve leaning back against the couch, one arm thrown over the back of it, his sketchbook on his lap while he brainstormed for a tattoo appointment he had first thing Monday morning. Jordyn should have been reading her book, but she’d been so engrossed in her thoughts about what Steve may or may not be missing that she’d been staring at the same page for probably ten minutes.
When she couldn’t take it anymore she had turned to him and, after clearing her throat, said, “I think we should go out tonight.”
Steve looked surprised at her suggestion and had tossed his sketchbook to the side to give her his full attention. His question hanging in the air between them, Jordyn straightened her back and nodded at him giving him a confident smile.
“Of course, I’m sure. And besides, I owe you.You were so great with my parents. A wholesome night for me, and then…” Jordyn licked her lips and grinned, “a Saturday night for you.”
He raised an eyebrow at her and leaned his head back against his arm. “I notice that you didn’t call it wholesome.”
Jordyn blushed at his calling her out but she kept going. “I don’t expect a night out on the town with Steve Ryans is going to be very wholesome,” she said, primly.
He let out a throaty chuckle and reached out, tweaking the braid she wore her hair in. “Maybe I’ve taken a liking to wholesome lately. You ever think about that?”
She opened her mouth to answer and then shut it because no. She hadn’t thought about that.
“You don’t like wholesome. No one likes wholesome,” she said finally.
“I think I like it just fine.”
Jordyn waved her hands at him. “Listen, we are not aiming for wholesome here, okay? We are going for a whole lotta fun, yes, but wholesome? Nope, not on the agenda.”
