Jordyn made a face, too. “Oh, gross.”
“Exactly. So, as soon as we got that settled, I got out there to you. I thought I would be done before you got here, but the kid was so scared I think we had maybe five false starts before I managed to do it.” Steve laughed, shaking his head and touched her cheek. “Sorry about all of that. You shouldn’t have had that happen. I’ll talk to Heidi about it.”
“It’s not your fault, and I can honestly say that my lunch break has never been this eventful.”
“Would you like to make it a little more eventful?” he asked her with a grin, his hand twisting the material of her scrubs. He slipped a few fingers underneath lightly stroking her side and for one wild second, she almost considered seeing how far Steve wanted to take it, but she came back to herself and pushed at his hand.
“Steve, they’ll hear,” she hissed at him, but he shrugged, looking at her.
“What do you expect from me? This whole looking like a doctor thing you have going on right now is hot. I’m discovering new things about myself every second I’m with you.” Steve tugged her toward him and kissed her. Thankfully, he kept the kiss light.
She kissed him again when he didn’t let her go and smiled up at him. “Are you coming over tonight?” Jordyn asked, trying to dodge his wandering hands.
Steve pulled her against him to kiss her again, not so light this time, his hands cupping her ass. Jordyn bit back a moan when his big hands squeezed her, and when Steve drew back, his eyes were darker. “Yeah, I’m coming over tonight.”
“Thank god,” she breathed against his mouth.
Steve chuckled and leaned forward, running his tongue along her bottom lip. This time Jordyn didn’t catch her moan, but as soon as the sound left her lips, she clapped a hand over her mouth with wide eyes. Her eyes darted to the side of Steve’s workstation. She was sure that she’d heard a muffled laugh, and she blushed.
“No,” she whispered again, pushing against his chest when he tried to kiss her. “No more. You have to wait until tonight.”
Steve let her go, and raised an eyebrow at her, his eyes moving up and down her body slowly. “If you make me wait, then get ready for a long night, Jordyn.” He moved away and picked his coffee cup up, taking a sip, his eyes intent on her. The way this man looked at her was like he wanted to throw her down and make her cum every last way he knew how, and Jordyn squirmed under the attention.
“Stop giving me sex eyes,” Jordyn ordered him.
Steve gave her a look of feigned innocence, though as he tasted the coffee, his eyes closed, and he smiled. “That’s so fucking good,” he sighed and opened his eyes to look at her. Jordyn felt her mouth go dry because Steve's gaze on her wasn't heated anymore, but had shifted into something new that she hadn't seen before.
This was softer—warmer than what he’d just been giving her. It wasn’t want or lust, but this was what she’d seen pass often between her parents. This was caring. Pure and unadulterated.
It was also fucking hot.
“Why are you looking at me like that?’ she asked because she wanted to know what had put it there as suddenly as it came.
“You remembered,” was all Steve said, and she nodded.
“Of course I did,” she said reaching over and taking her cup of coffee. Steve opened his mouth to say something, but someone pulled back the canvas partition and poked their head in.
“Hey, Jordyn. I’m Jamie,” he said, winking. It was the brown-haired man who’d been laughing at Steve and her.
“Hi?” she offered.
“I’m his best friend, business partner for this place, and his roommate. I would have rescued you from Heidi, but you came in when I was tattooing someone. Don’t mind Heidi, by the way," Jamie said with a wave of his hand. He leaned closer to her and said in a conspiratorial whisper, "she’s just pissed Steve won’t sleep with her. And if you’re wondering how I know your name, it’s because he draws you with this stupid look on his face.” Jordyn laughed at the exasperated look on Steve’s face when Jamie had finished speaking and immediately decided that she liked Jamie. “Should see the idiot’s face when you text him.”
She liked Jamie a whole lot.
“Don’t you have to get back and finish that tattoo?” Steve asked him, sounding annoyed, but Jordyn saw a smile was tugging his lips.
“Nah, they had to take a break." He looked out towards the rest of the shop with a pensive look on his face. "You know, I think they’re puking, actually,” Jamie said and shrugged. “Some people's nerves, you know?”
“Nice to meet you, Jamie.” Jordyn smiled at the friendly look on Jamie’s face.
“Glad he brought you around,” Jamie told her, and then he gave Steve an approving nod. “You’re right. She is beautiful.” Steve shook his head at Jamie, and then looked at Jordyn, to see her blushing with a smile on her face.
“I like you,” she told Jamie who beamed at her.
“That’s cause you’re smart.”
“Not all the time but I try,” she said and then sighed looking at her watch. “It was really nice to meet you but I have to run back. My break is almost over.” She turned towards Steve and kissed his cheek. “Tonight?” Jordyn asked.
