"Fine," she sighed. "I'll tell you, but you might not like it."
"Try me. Remember what I said; you're safe with me. Do you understand?"
"Yes," she said. Sam raised an eyebrow at her, and she stood up straighter. "Yes, Sir."
"Good girl, now come on." He held out his hand to her, and when she took it, he led her into the living room and to the couch. When they were settled, he gave her an expectant look. "Whenever you're ready, Lily Bell."
She fidgeted in her seat and looked up at the ceiling, wishing that she was anywhere but here, and she hated the feeling. She sucked in a deep breath and sat up, clasping her hands tightly. Better to get it over with as quickly as she could, like ripping a Band-Aid off.
"The reason I wanted to change everything was that I got dumped yesterday."
"Yesterday?" There was a note of surprise in Sam's voice, but Lily kept going. There was no stopping now.
"Yes, yesterday. It was a Daddy and little girl dynamic, but it never felt right. Everything was moving at the wrong pace, and I didn't trust him. Not really, and when I almost did, because the man was relentless in trying to get me there, he dumped me."
"Get you where?" Sam wanted to know, and Lily shrugged because she didn't know what Trent had ever wanted from her. He had never wanted her, not the real her, he had wanted perfect, the paper cut out version of what he thought a Little was. Lily wasn't perfect; no one was.
"I don't really know," she confessed. "But what I do know is that as soon as I leaned on him, he disappeared on me."
Sam's face darkened. "That isn't your fault, Lily. That wasn't a real Dom, and he sure as hell wasn't a Daddy."
Lily shook her head. "It was me. I have so much going on right now, and that's why I wanted to change the things that haven't been going right for me. I just, I'm scared that you're going to get tired of me too." Her eyes widened in surprise and she bit back the annoyed groan at herself for what she'd just said. She hadn't even known they were her fears until Sam had asked her to explain.
"Hush, sweet girl. You were with someone who didn't deserve you, didn't deserve any Little's trust. He did not belong in the role you gave him. That man has a lot to learn about himself."
"He dumped me in a text." She sniffled because it hurt. Even if she hadn't felt heartbreak over Trent, it did sting to be left via a text message.
Sam growled and moved closer to her, gathering her to his side. "That's bullshit. You are worth more than that, little one."
She turned her face into his chest and nodded. "I know, but still—"
"There's no but anything." Sam pulled back to look at her and wiped a thumb across her cheek, drying the tears that had slipped out. "He wasn't a Dom, not a competent one. You have baggage and things you want to change, but so does everyone. That doesn't mean you deserve to be treated like trash someone can throw away. I will never treat you that way."
She smiled and leaned into his touch. Sam was telling her the truth. "I know." And this time, when Lily said it, there was no 'but still'. It was a fact.
