Sophia pointed a finger at us. “Those two are going home together. Finally.”
Grant nodded at him. “We are. Nice to meet you, Ben. Give me a call on that investment if you want. I’ll have it sent up the way.”
Investment? My eyes snapped to Grant, but he wasn’t looking at me. He was giving Ben as genial a smile as any.
Ben brightened at that and nodded. “I will. Thank you...but...” He looked at me then. “But what about our date, Aurora?”
Sophia put a hand on his chest and his eyes moved to her. “You’re on a date with me now.”
“I am?”
She smiled at him. “Of course. Now go on and tell me more about that trip to Italy you just got back from.”
“I had a nice time, Ben. Thank you!” I called, waving goodbye when it was obvious he was in good hands. Ben waved at me and looked dazed at the turn of events, but did as Sophia asked.
Grant slipped his arm around my waist and propelled us toward the exit.
“What investment?” I asked as we walked.
“Just some property stuff,” Grant replied, pushing open the door. “Fixer-upper in town.”
“Oh.” I looked behind us and caught sight of Ben laughing along with Sophia. “That was all an act?”
“She’s an old friend. I needed someone who could get under your skin, is all.”
“I don’t like that,” I told him when he helped me up into the cab of his truck.
He sighed and looked away, leaning against the doorframe. “Well, I didn’t like you dating someone else.”
I sighed. “Fair.”
“Can I take you home now?” he said, stepping close to me. I could smell myself on him, and I licked my lips at the reminder of what he’d made me feel. How he’d made me come undone with nothing but his lips and tongue. I should have been mortified about what I’d let him do to me only minutes before but I found I wasn’t in the slightest.
“Mine or yours?” I asked, leaning forward. There was no shame here, only hunger, and I was eager for more. My heart raced a mile a minute as I envisioned what he would spend the rest of the night doing to me.
