“Not that!” I shrieked, though I did just notice a huge boner pressing into my back.
Pavlina sat up and stretched.
“I’d be upset if your dick was touching me too.”
Kimon rolled on his back and stuck his hands behind his head. He looked quite pleased with himself.
“I slept most of the night with River touchingmydick.”
“I told you there were benefits to little spoon,” Tryphon yawned.
“I can’t believe I did that in my sleep,” I moaned.
“I’m not complaining.”
Just then, my door burst open. Cerberus came bounding inside, and Hades stormed in behind him. All three of Cerberus’s heads were barking as he jumped on the bed and made every single monster jump out. That certainly gave new meaning to monsters under the bed. Only I would fondle the monster in my bed!
“Why are there monsters in your bed, River?”Cerberus demanded.
“Because I invited them.”
Hades just flopped elegantly in a chair and mopped his face with my hands.
“You all realize River is Hell royalty, right? She’s not from the Underworld. If she’s allowed to stay here, I’ll take her in, but it might not be my decision.”
I tried to sit up with Cerberus laying across my chest like this big protective baby.
“No, it’s mine. No one decides for me. I don’t know where I want to end up when this is over, but no one is deciding for me.”
“Barbatos is going back to Hell with terms for an unstable alliance. The kings of Hell might not permit me to let you stay.”
“What were the terms?”
I was being honest when I said I didn’t know where I wanted to end up, but I needed to know what kind of place Hell was because if they were bilking the Underworld out of resources for their help, I knew I didn’t want to go there. I didn’t care what some stuffy king said.
“It was fair. They just want to trade seeds and plant cuttings. Barbatos said it would help them grow things in Hell to make remedies, and maybe some witches and warlocks could make new potions. Your father will try to get Charley and Finn back with their own seedlings for us to grow here for medicine.”
Well, yeah. That was fair. I was down with that. Was that really all they wanted? No gold, treasure, weapons, or hostages? All they wanted was seeds. Interesting.
Hades' cell phone went off, and he placed his finger over his lips. We all fell silent.
“Hello, Demeter. What exactly can I help you with? River is just fine, and I’d like it if you’d stop calling her a dog. Yes, Demos has recovered. Fine. I wish you’d shut those fucking pits down, but I know that’s exactly why you aren’t.”
Hades smashed his finger on the screen to end the call and ran his fingers through his hair.
“Demos, you’re up in two days.”
Tryphon’s tentacle slid across the room until it was wrapped around my ankle. Cerberus snapped at it. That three-headed dog sure had problems with me getting laid.
“She hasn’t called for me in a long time.”
“You killed everything your size, and you didn’t make it entertaining enough for her. Plus, she thinks you’re less of a threat while you’re stuck in your pool.”
“I’ll show her a threat.”
I didn’t want Demos to fight, but it wasn’t like I had a say in it. I shot him a look across the room, and he just gave me this curt nod.
Suddenly, Cerberus forgot how to use his words. The hair on his back stood up. He crouched down and bared his teeth. I didn’t want to touch him because I knew better than to touch a dog when they were puffed up like that.
