She sighs and runs her fingers through her hair, only succeeding in making her look even wilder. “Naw, I’m fine. We should get on the floor. Don’t want to be late.”

We both go over to the scanner and clock in before making our way out onto the floor. If she doesn’t want to talk about what happened, I can’t make her. I just hope she’ll say something if she needs help. I’m working on the slots and the tables tonight. There are only four of us on staff for this shift. Tuesdays tend to be fairly dead for the casino. At least I hope it will be tonight so that I can spend more time around Knox.

Donna turns to glance over her shoulder at me. She waits for me to catch up with her and then leans down toward my ear. “Whatever happened to that guy you were talking to last night. Did you do like I suggested and go up to his room for more tips?”

Heat floods my cheeks. “No, I didn’t have a change of clothes with me. We’re going to do something tonight after work, but I’m not going to try and get more tips out of him, I just want to have some fun.”

She grins and nudges me. “Get that dick, girl! Tips are a plus, but if you need to get laid.” She shrugs.

I’ve never been laid before, but I’m hoping it will be good. I hope it will be worth it and that he will still be into me at the end of the night. If he isn’t, it’s going to suck. I’ve never felt so drawn to someone I just met. I’m not looking for him to be my soulmate or anything, I just don’t want to be rejected by him after what I felt last night. I guess I’m feeling nervous because he’s the first man that’s ever made me want to have sex. If I’m going to experience it for the first time with anyone I want it to be him. I think he’ll be fantastic and a good choice for my first time.

“What section are you working on tonight? Will we be in the same area?” I ask. She seems to have gathered herself now that she’s in work mode, but I still want to keep an eye on her. She’s technically been here longer than me, having been one of the leads to train me on the job, but she’s still known to have issues with anger if a patron pushes a wrong button. It hasn’t gotten her fired yet, but if I can diffuse her before they set her off, I’m sure it will keep her around here longer.

She’s a good co-worker and I don’t want to see her go. She’s one of the only ones I talk to other than Daniel on occasion if he sticks around in the locker room.

Donna shakes her head. “No. I’ll be on the other side of the floor away from the tables. So I won’t have a chance to talk to your hunk tonight either. Lucky girl, I got a few good looks at him last night. For a second I thought he might be Aquaman’s brother or something. It should be illegal for men as hot as him to walk around. He certainly got my motor going. You’ll have to let me know if he’s good in the sack. If he sticks around long enough, I might take him for a test drive, too. The hot ones like him are either one of two kinds. He could be a sex god, making you come so much you have to tell him to stop, or he’ll be a dead fish, sticking you on his dick and expecting you to do all the work. I’ll pray that he’s a god for you.”

My stomach tumbles at the fact she would want to sleep with him after me if he’s good. I want to tell her she can’t have him, he’s mine if he’ll have me, but the thought makes me pause. Why am I thinking like that? I have no claim to him. We just met. It’s not like we can sleep together tonight and then bam he’s my boyfriend. We’re not in high school. If he wants to sleep with me tonight and then her another night, I won’t be able to stop him.

I’m sure when he goes home from wherever he came from he’ll be sleeping with women there, too. I can’t be one of those girls that get overly attached just because he might be the first man I’ve ever slept with or wanted to sleep with.

She laughs “Anyway, Darlin’, I gotta get to my section. I hope you have fun with your hunk tonight, and if you need anything, I’ll have one of the walkies on me.” I watch her walk off and I look around at the tables. There are a few of the regulars, the ones that don’t stay at the hotel, but still come here every day to gamble. I don’t know where they get all of their money, but they must’ve had killer retirement plans to live here, not work, and still gamble every day like they’re spending pennies.

No Knox, yet. At least not from what I can tell. I let out a sigh. I’m sure he’ll come down soon. Until then, I have a job to do. I head over to the poker table, and where several of the older patrons sit. They don’t have drinks with them and it makes me wonder if the person before me served them or if they’re sitting ducks. They’re gonna sit there all night playing, but they won’t bother to order anything, so I’m not going to make any money.

Stopping at the bar, I grab one of the tablets, so that any of my orders I get can go straight there and the bartender can get them started and ready. It makes the whole process a lot more streamlined. I can go to several tables and get their drinks and have them waiting for me by the time it gets to the bar. The same is done for the kitchen with the appetizers that are allowed at the table. Nothing too messy, just things that are easy to eat.

I smile at them as I approach. Angie is the dealer at this table. I like her, she’s a sweet girl and good at her job. I wait for a lull in the game, not wanting to ruin her focus or theirs.

“Can I get you, gentlemen, anything?”

The one with a cowboy hat nods. “I’ll have a Jack Daniels straight up.” He eyes his cards and I can’t tell if he has a good hand or not, but he has a stack of chips riding on it. I put his order in and looked at the other four at the table. They remain quiet.

Taking that as a cue that they don’t want anything, I force myself to keep in a sigh. It’s going to be one of those nights where I’m ignored entirely; they can’t even give me the courtesy of them shaking their heads.

Turning around I glance at the roulette table, there are some people at it, maybe they’ll want drinks. I don’t even care if they order a soda, at least that would still mean a tip of some kind.

Walking up to it, I wait for the wheel to stop spinning. Some people let out cheers as it lands on a number they bet on.

“Can I get drinks for anyone tonight, or an appetizer?”

Several of the women hanging off the men give me the stink eye as I feel the men’s gazes travel over me.

“Champagne all around!” one of the men shouts. “I’m feeling lucky tonight! Bring flutes for everyone at the table.”

I pause before putting in the order. I want to see some cash first, or his room or member card so I can scan it and add it to his tab. “Sir, a bottle is a hundred and twenty dollars. I’ll need your room key or membership card before I can place the order. You may pay in cash as well.”

One of the women huffs and reaches into his back pocket. She pulls out some bills from his wallet and tosses them in my direction. “There, now go get what he ordered.”

I pick up the bills and glance at Daniel who’s working the table. He has the look on his face like he’s had to deal with these losers way past what he has the tolerance for. More than likely they’re from out of state and think because they can throw money around it’s okay for them to treat us like crap.

Hurrying to pick up the bills so it doesn’t affect their game, I put in the order and head for the bar. I doubt they’re going to tip me either.

Taking the cowboy his whiskey, I’m ignored once again by the others. I glance toward the entrance to the casino floor as I head back to the bar for the flutes of champagne. I stop in my tracks as Knox walks in, and holy hell, I swear my nipples harden in an instant at the sight of him.

I’m not the only one who takes notice of him as he swaggers in wearing a wine-red button-down shirt, the top four buttons opened. He has it tucked into his black slacks with a belt buckle that looks like it has three rubies in it. He takes off his shades and our eyes meet.

A wide grin spreads across his face and I swear my heart stops. Why is he so handsome? He tilts his head to the side and motions that he’s going to sit at one of the slot machines near the tables. I don’t blame him. Most of the tables are dead, and the ones with people are full. It’s awkward when you’re the only player at the table.
