Rachel doesn’t look the least bit bothered by his outburst. “Possession is nine-tenths of the law, Cameron.” She takes a slow smug bite. “Mmmm, these are delightful.”

Rachel is both a blessing and a goddamn problem. Because now, there’s zero chance I’ll get Raven alone again tonight. I grab another mug and slide it toward Rachel, who hums in satisfaction.

Cam grabs another cookie and turns back to Raven. “So why were you outside in the first place?”

Rachel cuts in without hesitation. “She was probably laying in the rain somewhere.” She waves a hand like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

Cam raises a brow, staring between them like they’ve lost their minds. “Laying in the rain?” He repeats, like he’s trying to understand the logic.

I lean against the counter, “Aye, but thank God her ankle survived.”

Raven snorts, shooting me a glare that could flay skin. And fuck if that doesn’t make me want to kiss her again.

“That’s exactlywhy I was outside, actually. And it was epic,” Raven fires back, rolling her eyes. “Kane here, thought I was sneaking out to snoop through the garden or meet up with some bandit in the night.”

“A bandit in the night?” I bark out a laugh.Where the fuck does this woman come up with this shit?

But she plows forward like I never spoke. “So” she continues, her tone smug as hell, “he decided to follow me outside andsneak up on me. He’s lucky I didn't stab him. It rained, we got soaked, and then we came back inside.”

She’s grinning now, clearly pleased with herself. She forgot to mention a few details, but I’ll let it slide. Details like her moaning into my mouth. And the way she melted against me. And don't even get me started on the way her thighs clenched when I—

I force my grip to loosen on the counter, slowly letting out a breath. Not the time.

She also conveniently glossed over the part where she was practically begging me for more. But that’s fine. Let her pretend.

She’s not mine. That fact alone should be enough to kill whatever this is. But it’s not doing anything other than make me want her more.

Cam laughs, shaking his head. “Why is it you’re always finding trouble?” His teasing grin makes her roll her eyes, but I don’t miss the way her cheeks flush.

“Um… Kane, gross. We don’t follow people into the woods.Bad.” Rachel interrupts, wagging her finger at me.

Cam bursts out laughing, slamming a hand on the counter. “Oh Gods, you guys are fuckin’ hilarious. How long are you staying again?” He turns to me, his eyes sharp and full of mischief. “Can we keep them?”

I shake my head, but his question lingers in my mind. How long are they staying?

Raven doesn’t answer. She doesn’t even look up. She just focuses on her cookie, pretending to be so intrigued by each chocolate chip. But I see the slight blush creeping up her neck. And that tiny, almost imperceptible smile tugging at the corner of her lips. It’s a goddamn weapon.

Cam and I have a meeting tomorrow about a case, so we’re having it in the ring. And after that kiss? I’ve got more than enough fucking steam to blow off. And I already know he’s gonna give me hell for it.

Rachel stretches, letting out a dramatic sigh. “Well, thanks for the cookie and hot chocolate, I still have a headache, so I'm going back to bed. See you in the morning.”

She hands Cam her half-eaten cookie before disappearing down the hall and Raven jumps up like the building is on fire.

“Night.” She follows Rachel without so much as a glance in my direction.

You can run all you want, Princess.

Once the girls are out of earshot, Cam elbows me, hard. His grin is downright infuriating.

“Sooo…” He drags the word out, leaning in. “What’s going on with you two?”

His brows lift like he’s been waiting all night to ask that question. I roll my eyes, because there's no point in lying. “We didn’t do anything.”

He lets out a low whistle, leaning back in his chair with a grin. “Ahh, so the ring then?”

“As soon as we drop them off, aye.”

“And the breach?” His voice drops slightly. “Still nothing?”
