Maybe I was just in shock. But nothing he had yelled or said made me want to turn tail and run. Actually, it had the exact opposite effect.

Logically I knew I should get as far away from here as possible. But my body wasn’t thinking logically. I was on fire with desire. I wanted to test the limits and push him to his break point. And there was no doubt in my mind that it would be worth the ride.

I’d already told them I was leaving. Maybe Peyton would try to change my mind.

I watched until the bike disappeared.

If she wanted to change my mind, I was going to let her, because I really wanted to see this thing through. He was my true mate. Of course I was curious. How could I not be?

“I am so sorry, Tricia. He’s been going through some stuff, but I am horrified by his behavior. He’s never lashed out like that before.”

“Mama, is everything okay?” a little girl asked.

“It’s fine, sweetie,” Peyton’s mate said, sweeping the girl up in his arms. “Uncle Brady is just in a mood.”

“A mood?” Peyton asked. “He’s losing it, Oliver.”

“Can we talk about this later?” His eyes cut towards me as he silently begged her to stop talking.

They were cute. I hadn’t spent a lot of time around happily mated couples before, but something told me they had their shit together. Healthy relationships weren’t something I knew much about. Perhaps that was why Brady intrigued me so much.

“I’m just really sorry about this, Tricia. There’s no excuse for his behavior.”

There definitely was, but I didn’t think I should be the one to share that.

I may have been confused in the moment, but I think I understood what happened. I had hated being surrounded by his brother’s scent. It had been a restless night because of it. But how much worse would it have been if the rolls were reserved and I woke up to him sleeping in some other woman’s bed, wearing her clothes, and covered in her scent.

My wolf growled in my head at the thought.

Yeah, the more I thought about it, the more I felt like he had shown remarkable strength in not killing his brother.

“You’re still welcome here as long as you’d like,” Peyton insisted.

“Is that a good idea?” Oliver asked.

Peyton shot him a look. “He said he wasn’t coming back.”

“And you believed him?”

“I’m taking him at his word. Tricia, are you really leaving or would you like to stick around? I promise we aren’t this bad as hosts.”

“Are you sure about this?” Oliver asked her.

“I am. But call Luke and make sure he actually gets in touch with him.”

I tried to bite back my smile.

“Kenneth can go back to his room, and we’ll move Tricia into Brady’s. And he’ll just have to find somewhere else to stay for now. And if Luke doesn’t have anything right now, then maybe sleeping in the barn a few nights will fix his attitude.”

Kenneth had joined us at some point. He leaned in and whispered. “Remind me not to piss her off. She’s scary.”

I chuckled. But I couldn’t agree with him more. And while I was more than ready to leave Collier Pack and finally feel safe in Westin territory, I couldn’t help but be too curious about Brady to run.

“So it’s settled then,” Peyton decided when I didn’t respond.

“I hope you know what you’re doing,” Oliver said giving her a quick peck on her cheek.

It was clear that he was going to support her decision no matter what. I’d never seen anything like it before. It made me curious about them as much as my mate.
