Knox closes the door behind him and Delilah comments with a grin on her face, “Why are you two home so soon?”

“Because your asshole of a son, no offense, decided to pick me up and drag me out of the damn club after I kissed someone at midnight. Actually him and Wes!”

“Wes? Where is Wes?” Stella asked us.

“Here!” He popped his head inside the door and walked in with hands in his pockets. Where did he come from?

“Ok, what she just said is a slight exaggeration of the truth,” Knox defends himself.

“Exaggeration! Knox, you and Wes dragged Caleb away from me when I kissed him because I kissed him! You two bringing girls over to annoy me! Well, it didn’t work you pricks!”

“Alex! Language!” my mom scolded me over to the side.

“Baby doll, you were trying to make me jealous with that bet of yours! And I told you not to kiss Caleb! Or anyone for that matter.”

“Us, Knox, she tried to make us jealous. Wait, what bet?” Wes looked between us but I ignored his question with a slight smile on his face.

“You brought the girls over first so you started it! And I wasn’t trying to make you jealous, he made the bet I just played along.

See, your two sons cock blocked me! I’m going to be that cat lady that no guy ever comes near! So thanks, idiots! Thanks a lot!”

“Is that true boys?” Delilah asks with an attitude laced in her tone. She crossed her arms over with a smirk on her face.

“Maybe” they both mumbled simultaneously.

“I’m going to bed, I’m done! Good night. Not you two! You dick heads... you can leave and go back to the girls you had on your laps. Bye bitches!”

Feeling an arm grab me back and hoist me over a shoulder again. Not again.

“Stop doing that! Put me down,” I demanded.

“Knox, put her down dammit!” Wes shouts and he turns on his heel to face him.

Oh god, please don’t fight, please don’t fight.

Wes throws the first punch to the stomach and makes Knox winded. I feel unsteady over his shoulder. He puts me down on the ground and I hear a gasp of Wes’s name from his parents.

That’s when Knox turns and lunges for Wes, knocking the two of them on the ground. Fists are flying, hitting body parts and the two boys are rolling around on the floor in the foyer.

Multiple grunts and words are mumbled but nobody can make out what is being said by both of them. It’s like they’re whispering insults to each other but want nobody else to hear.

The mothers are yelling for them to stop at once while the fathers are trying to break up the fight. After a few more punches and kicks, they were able to successfully peel the two boys off each other.

Both boys are panting with anger as they continue to stare at one another in rage. A good distance away from each other, hearing the hard breathing from people, mainly the boys, shakes me out of my daze.

All the while I just stand there in pure shock.

“Alex,” my mom runs to me and hugs me from the side. They both snap their heads to me and I don’t even look at them. I’m staring into space in my own world.

What picked happened?

Chapter 31

I awoke to the gentle rhythm of breathing on either side of me, the familiar warmth of two bodies nestled close. Hannah and my mom had stayed the night, their presence a comforting balm after the chaos of the previous evening.

The fight that had erupted last night had left me shaken, my mind a whirlwind of confusion and guilt. Knox and Wes had both tried to talk to me, their voices echoing through the closed door of my room. Their parents had eventually dragged them away, their apologies and explanations fading into the night. I was grateful for the silence, the solitude. Eric had to carry me to my room, my legs weak and unsteady from the shock of what I’d witnessed.

Throughout the night, sleep had been elusive, my mind replaying the events over and over. Did I cause that fight? The question haunted me, a ghost whispering in the darkness.
