“Thank you.”
“While we wait, I’m going to go use the restroom. I’ll be right back, okay?”
“Don’t be gone too long. I’ll come find you.” I do my best to keep a hold of her hand, but the further she walks, the harder it is to hold on. In another step, our hands drop from one another, and Dove gives me a beautiful smile, one that lights up the room more than the chandelier. My eyes are locked on her the entire way as she makes her way to the restroom. As if I could ever take my eyes off her.
“Winston.” A hand lands on my chest, taking me by surprise. “It’s been so long. How are you?”
Christine Salvorie. The daughter of a doctor who lost his medical license due to sexual misconduct with his patients. I’m stunned by her forwardness. I’ve known her for a few years now and I’ve never known her to be the type to throw herself at me.
“Christine.” I lift her hand from my chest, and she leans in for a hug, wrapping her arms around me. “What are you doing?”
“It’s been a while.” She kisses me on the cheek, and I take a step away, not wanting her anywhere near me.
“Respectfully, do not ever touch me again. I don’t want you. I’ve never wanted you and I never will. I have a fiancée. She will be back any minute and you better be gone in the next five seconds or I will have you removed from this gala,” I sneer.
She narrows her thickly lined eyes, clicking her tongue. “I don’t remember you being so rude.” With a flip of her hand, she saunters away, leaving me irritated and wishing I had grabbed a glass of champagne.
“Well, well, well.”
I close my eyes when I hear Landon’s voice from behind me.
“Can I help you, Landon?” I don’t bother turning toward him.
“Actually. Yes.” He steps in front of me, a knowing, smug grin stretched across his face.
“Let’s go our separate ways tonight, okay?”
He chuckles, pulling out his phone, then swipes across the screen. “See these?”
Annoyed, I glance down, swallowing when I see the images. Fury unlike anything I’ve ever felt before simmers in my blood. They are photos of Christine kissing my cheek, hugging me, placing her hand on my chest.
“I’ve sent these to all major news outlets. Dove will come work for me again now that she sees you for what you are, Winston. A lying cheat.”
I snag his phone, clenching it so hard in my hand that the screen cracks. “You have no idea who you’re fucking with, Landon.”
“I think I do. You’ll never go as low as me, Winston. Remember that.” He grins, slipping his phone in his pocket.
As more people check their phones, more people turn to look at me. My life just became a lot more difficult, but there’s only one relationship I’m interested in saving.
No matter how hard it will be.

I’m dryingmy hands when my phone dings in my purse. Hurrying to get them dry, I toss the paper towels in the trash and dig my phone out of my clutch. I’m relieved when I don’t see my mom’s name across the screen. It’s just a news alert, but it’s the headline that has me clutching the diamond necklace Winston got me.
Warrick Affair Stirs War
“What?” I panic, knowing it has to be about one of his brothers.
I know Winston is going to raise hell for his brothers to defend them and provide the best lawyers, not that they wouldn’t have their own, but Winston would make sure of it.
I click on the link, the page taking forever to load. When the text finally appears and the picture shows, I forget how to breathe. There’s no way I can be seeing what I think I am. It’s Winston, but that’s impossible because this is now. This picture of him is right at this moment.
“What? No, no, no, this…he wouldn’t do that to me.” The article is clearly from a paparazzi site, but these photos had to be takenwhen I left to go to the bathroom. How did they upload these photos so fast?
