A third?

Huh?

“No. I… no. That’s like cheating.”

“It’s not. Did Rommy ever tell you about her friend Josie who’s married to two bikers, Pick and Billy? It does happen, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

“I’m not into women,” I told her.

I wasn’t. Never had it crossed my mind either.

And yet the image of Rommy smiling at me as she leaned in?—

Whoa. What the fuck?

“Sorry if this is freaking you out,” Dusty said softly. “I just wanted to bring it up before Rommy leaves. I’d never want you to regret anything. I always feared that with you and Quake. Though, that’s sorted now.” She gave me a tight-lipped smile. “Sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything.”

She shouldn’t have.

I never would have considered that three people in a relationship could be happy. That was absurd. Crazy.

“Don’t worry about it,” I told her. “It’s not like that for us. Kayson and I are just close friends with Rommy.”

Dusty nodded. “Okay, yeah. Now, do you have time for another coffee, or do you need to get back for work?”

I pulled out my phone and saw the time. “I should get back.” Standing, I asked, “Another time?”

“Always.” Dusty smiled. “And you know I’m here for you, Eve. For anything.”

“I know. You know I appreciate you and the other old ladies.”

She bumped into my hip as we walked out. “We know.”

When we got back to the compound, I quickly went to my room and dressed in a classy, knee-length dress and heels. The store I worked in was more upper-class fashion, so I had to make sure I looked decent. I applied a small amount of make-up and headed downstairs to see if Rommy was in the common room.

I found her there sitting with a very pregnant Raya and Raya’s sister, Wrenley.

Swallowing thickly, I ignored the extra beat to my heart and made my way over.

Rommy waved her hands around while she talked. Until she settled down so she could rub Raya’s stomach. The woman was going to pop out her and Death’s baby any day now.

“Hey,” I called.

“Eve!” Rommy exclaimed, jumping up from the couch and running over to wrap me up in a hug.

My ears rang from how hard the blood rushed through me.

She tipped her head back and beamed up at me. “How was breakfast?”

“Kayson tell you?”

“Yep. Then I beat him at a couple of games before I came down here.” She moved back, and we walked over to the couch.

“How have you been, Eve?” Wrenley asked.

“Good.” I smiled.

“Aww, look at that smile. She’s so in love with Quake,” Rommy teased.
