“I know you aren’t, but I am,” he said, the silence growing between us.
“I have something to show you.” I pulled an envelope from my jacket. Jax curiously opened the large yellow envelope, taking out a thick white packet, reading the first page. “I’m officially back to being a Robles.” Relief washed over me every time I said it out loud.
“For now,” Jax stated, deadpan.
“Grimwood, are you saying you want me to be your wife someday?” My flushed cheeks spread like a wildfire.
“Twin souls, remember? You are more than my wife, Faye. You are my partner, my best friend, my other half. Existing in this very body is the other half of my soul.” Jax massaged my shoulder gently, goosebumps following suit as he planted small kisses on my shoulder. “I’ll never need a rock or a paper to tell me that. You are eternally mine, Robles.”
Jax stood from the rocking chair as it creaked, swinging back and forth. A raven flew in from the twinkling midnight sky, the luminous moonlight casting a reflection on its silky feathers asit soared by, dropping a black velvet box in Jaxon’s palm. He caught it mid air.
“Penny called Rocky to let her know the divorce was officially signed and finalized earlier today.”
My heart began beating heavily in my chest.
“It’s always been you, Faye Robles, the keeper of my sinister heart, my light, the counterpart to my soul. I love you in this lifetime, and in every lifetime. There is no parallel that exists where you do not own my heart, little witch.”
Jax slowly got down on one knee, his shadows opening the black velvet box before me. In it lay a beautiful silver band wrapped with Nordic symbols and a gigantic exotic moonstone that sat gracefully in the middle. I immediately recognized the stone as Diana’s. I could feel my hands begin to tremble as reality slapped me wide awake. Tears surfaced in my eyes and I didn’t even try to fight them, fight this, or him.
“I bet you won’t marry me, Robles.” Jax smugly placed the stone on my left ring finger. It fit perfectly.
“You’re on.” I tackled my Reaper on the porch floor, kissing him playfully under the moonlight as the stars twinkled with our laughter.
“I have one question before we ride off into the sunset, Reaper.” I interrupted.
“Ask away, myljos,” he replied, pecking the top of my nose.
“What favor do you owe my cousin, Rocky?” I asked curiously…
Jax’s face went blank, “About that…” he retorted, nervously.
The End
(for now)
Epilogue
It was a quiet few months— peaceful. Which was something I felt like we all deserved. Birdie started kindergarten this year and it scared the shit out of me that I couldn’t stand there as her guard dog every damn second of the day. It kept me on toes every day she was there. My gods, was this what it was like to be a parent? I was weeks shy of having to fulfill my oath to Odin fortwo months. I guess it was better than four. I watched as Faye and Birdie fed the chickens and cows, Faye’s long floral dress dancing in the desert wind, her long dark hair in a braid. This was peace,I thought, sipping my black coffee from its canister.
“What are you looking at, cowboy?” Faye felt my gaze on her.
“Oh, just my whole life,” I whispered, twirling and kissing her.
“You’re off in two weeks, how do you feel?” Faye asked me, curious.
“I feel ready, excited for the hunt, but melancholy for the way I’m going to miss you, baby.” I tucked her hair behind her ear.
“Well, you’ll have to hurry back, because I have my first ultrasound,” Faye said, picking up a woven basket of eggs out of the chicken coop.
“Okay–”
I spat out my coffee. Wait… “Ultrasound?” I looked at Faye in disbelief.
“Mhhhm.” Faye rubbed her belly. Setting my canister down, I picked her up and placed her back down, placing my large hand on her belly. Our bean was back, sprouting in the woman I loved deeply.
“We’re having a son.” I went to my knees and kissed her stomach.
“How do you know it’s a boy, hmm, what if it’s a girl?” she asked me, chuckling.
