"Storm’s a purple alpha, right?"
"Yeah, he is. And there was another incident. He seemed to go after the brothers he hated most, me, Skye, and Winter. Winter’s ten years older than Storm. Back in college, he had a beta boyfriend. They broke up after graduation, but years later, Storm met Finn again. He’d become a teacher at the same college, and Storm slept with him too."
Kay stared at me. "That’s such a twisted, almost perverse kind of revenge."
"We always low-key hated each other. Skye and I were pretty much allies against Storm since we were kids."
"What about your older brothers?"
"Well, with Snow and Bay it’s more complicated. They were kinda walking their separate paths, rarely engaging in drama. And Winter, my only beta brother, was just unpleasant to everyone. He always had this hostile attitude toward alphas. He’d scold Storm all the time and call him a mindless purple beast. And since Storm didn’t have the musical or mathematical talents the rest of us had, Winter would say he was deaf and dumb. So I guess Storm took that personally, and sleeping with Finn was his way of getting back at him. Just once, literally, to make a point."
"Well, to put it lightly, your family dynamic is definitely… interesting."
"Yeah, it’s a lot. We’ve all got strong personalities."
Kay’s voice turned hesitant, like he was almost embarrassed to ask. "Did Storm ever… you know, shift around you?"
His expression was almost apologetic. People always tiptoed around that subject, it wasn’t something most folks understood. Purple alphas made up less than two percent of all alphas, and their abilities were kind of an urban legend.
"Not during any fights with us. But since purple alphas can access their power outside of fighting mode, he’d just snap sometimes and beat the crap out of us. There wasn’t much we could do. I only saw him partially turn once. It was during a summer town event, and some alphas were harassing two young omegas. Things started getting dangerous. When he began to transform—his eyes glowing purple—they all took off running. Nobody wants to deal with what shows up at the end of his morphing. Trust me."
"Oh, I believe it. Did he… extend those things? The bone horns? Spikes or something?"
I grimaced and shrugged. I knew exactly what Kay meant. Purple alphas had a long purple streak that ran along their spine and limbs, and from there, sharp bony protrusions could grow, acting like armor in a fight and as a weapon.
"Kind of. Just near his neck. It looked insane. People were screaming, running away… Total chaos. But in the end, everything turned out okay. Those two omegas actually endedup going on a date with him later, and apparently, they had a threesome. I guess they were impressed and… umm, grateful."
I could’ve said more about what happened, but honestly, I didn’t want to talk about Storm any longer.
"I bet they were. But Rain, if Storm protected those omegas…" Kay hesitated, "it sounds like he’s not the type of guy who would beat an omega. Do you really think he hurt his husband?"
I didn’t want to talk about that either, but I guess we were getting to know each other, and family stories were part of the deal.
"To be completely honest, no. Storm’s always been kind to omegas and betas. Especially… kindly impaling them on his dick. I’d even say he’s gentle and protective, a lover, not a fighter. From what I’ve heard, Tom wanted someone rougher. Storm was probably too soft for him, ironically. I’ve got my own issues with Storm, and they cloud my judgment, but when I try to listen to my gut, I feel like he’s innocent."
Kay watched me for a second, picking up on my frustration, and politely switched topics.
"You mentioned earlier you all had musical talents, except for Storm. Do you play anything?"
"Yeah, I do. My dad taught me piano, and my father encouraged me to learn guitar. But I picked up the banjo on my own. I’ve still got my old one here, though I haven’t had the time to play lately."
"Why didn’t you study music in college?"
I snorted and shrugged. "Our house was full of music. My oldest brother, River, was a natural on the violin. Snow and Bay both played piano and guitar: Snow teaches music and composes, and Bay is a famous YouTuber known for his covers. He sings at concerts and performs at different events. Winter plays too, but he went into programming. Some of us figured itwasn’t a bad idea to actually make money in a more conventional way, so Skye and I followed Winter’s lead. But we can still play, well, except for Storm."
Kay hesitated. "Would you play something for me? You know… when you feel like it?"
Our eyes met. "Sure, Kay. I’ll play for you."
Kay went quiet for a moment, lost in thought.
Then he asked, "So, how’d you meet Brian?"
"At the beginning of college. He was a math major. He was my second, after Larry. You’re my third."
Kay looked surprised. "No way! You’ve only been with three omegas? No hookups?"
"No. That’s not really my thing."
