"Yeah. You know what they say: turn your weaknesses into strengths."

He gave a small, cautious smile. "That’s such a good mindset. I love it."

Kay swallowed the last chunks of bacon, and hesitated. Our fingers had stayed kind of tangled together.

He looked thoughtful, then he cleared his throat, and said, "I want to go for a swim now. I’m not letting the Dawsons ruin this lake for me."

"Of course. I’ll come with you."

Still, his eyes stayed glued to my hand, his fingers slightly stirred, and I dared to stroke the side of his palm with my thumb, sending a small spike through his pulse.

"But first…" he bit his plump lip. "Maybe we could—?"

I grinned. "You bet it!"

In no time, I was on the bed, feeling my blood boiling, enthralled by the power of our chemistry. The frequent sex came so easily to us; we slipped into intimacy in an almost silky, effortless way, and it was incredibly joyful. I was already addicted to those moments when I got to rock between his thighs, listening to his moans close to my ear, hearing his sped-up breaths.

We had a quick, intense fuck, but something odd happened at the end. As I came inside him and pulled out, he suddenly lowered his hand, scooped up some of what was leaking out, and tasted it.

His expression… frankly, it wasn’t even a sexy thing. It was more like he was testing it. Curious, brows furrowed. He was clearly trying hard not to react when he realized it tasted… sweet. There was this tiny twitch in his face that gave him away.

They say that TM’s sperm always tastes good to each other.

So… another sign?

But neither of us said a word about it.

???

Once we had our swimsuits on, we headed down to the beach.

Looking around more closely, I noticed a faint patch of dried blood on the ground, right where I’d bitten a chunk out of Jorah Dawson’s hand. I quickly covered it with sand. Kay noticed, but didn’t say anything. He walked into the lake right away, even though the morning water was pretty cold.

He started swimming along the shore, and after taking much longer to adjust to the temperature, I joined him. The swim turned out to be refreshing and helped take some of the edge off my nerves. We swam for nearly an hour before Kay decided he’d had enough and made his way back to the shore, where we’d left our clothes.

We sat down wrapped in towels, soaking in the warmth of the sun. I moved a little closer to him, kind of shyly, until our shoulders were touching. He noticed and turned his head toward me. Our faces ended up pretty close. The swim had left a faint flush on Kay’s cheeks, and the sunlight gave his skin a soft, pearly glow. His deep navy-blue eyes looked almost like sapphires, glowing with a color that didn’t seem quite real.

For a moment, we just looked at each other.

"I know it’s kinda obvious, but you’re so beautiful," I whispered.

He blinked and swallowed. "Thank you. You’re really handsome too."

"Well, now we’ve gotten that out of the way and traded some flattery—" I said, trailing off as Kay let out a quiet laugh.

Our faces were still pretty close, maybe a foot apart. I didn’t want to make him uncomfortable by staring at his lips, so I turned my head slowly toward the lake.

I needed to say something. Ideally, something thoughtful andsubtle.

"Was Maurice your first?"

Yeah. Real smooth. That probably wasn’t the most tactful thing I could’ve asked.

His eyebrows lifted slightly, amused. "Yeah. We’d been together since high school."

"What was that like? Did you get a lot of attention from the other alphas back then?"

He made a face. "I did. It sucked. They all wanted to date me, and the other omegas hated me for it. I was basically an outcast. You wouldn’t believe how jealous teenage omegas can get."
