"No!"

His answer was quick, tense, almost angry. He dropped his head and stared at his tablet.

I was so in tune with him that I could feel his arousal in my own body, along with his frustration. Fighting it alone had to bebrutal. But I didn’t want to urge him into sex, not like this.

We were more than halfway home when he finally said, "Can we stop somewhere? I need some fresh air."

Fresh air? Was my scent too much for him?

"Sure."

Not far ahead, I spotted the gas station we’d been to earlier and pulled into a small lot next to the grocery store. Kay got out, and I followed.

But as I rounded the car, a soft glow caught my eye.

He’d left his tablet on, and something on the screen made me pause. I opened the back door and peeked at the display.

It was a sketch… a portrait, in fact, of me.

Drawn beautifully, with delicate, minimalistic yet perfect strokes, achieving maximum effect. Very artistic, with expertly captured light and shadows, wow… A profile view, just like I might’ve looked from where he sat in the back seat. My face thoughtful. A little sad.

It was… incredible. Honestly, he made me look better than I probably did in real life, like a hottie. Or maybe… that was just how he saw me?

It puzzled me. Why had he drawn me?

He’d been distant and upset, but the whole time we sat there in silence, he’d been sketching me? It was hard to make sense of. But there wasn’t time to dwell on it, he was already nearing the store.

I closed the door and hurried after him.

He walked in, and I followed silently. The shop looked empty except for the cashier, who stared at us, wide-eyed. Kayignored him and wandered down the narrow aisles, like he was looking for something. I stayed right behind him.

He stopped in the beverage section, checking out some juices. I watched, lost in thought, confused.

I couldn’t make sense of what was happening at all. Kay seemed almost angry with me, didn’t want my closeness in the car, but he was… drawing me? My head was full of absolute confusion, and maybe that’s why I lost my awareness, ignoring the sound of footsteps.

Suddenly, two alphas stepped out from either side of the shelf, heading toward Kay. He flinched and stepped back.

They looked familiar. Had I seen them before?

"Hey there, sweetheart," one of them said, flashing a nasty grin.

I stepped closer until my chest pressed against Kay's back.

"Oh, you've got a boyfriend? But from the way this place smells, he’s not really taking care of your needs, huh? The whole grocery store is brimming with your sweet aroma, babe."

Kay stared at him, eyes wide.

In a low, growling voice, I said, "Alright, back off. He’s pregnant. Leave him alone."

"Is that right? Maybe you could share him. That pretty piece of ass shouldn't go to waste with just one alpha. Plenty of us could have a little fun."

That’s when I realized what was going on.

The third alpha, the same one who had been leading the group earlier that morning, when we were waiting in line, joined them. He showed up behind the others. They remembered us. It felt like a trap.

"Well, look who it is. Sunshine's back," he said, eyes narrowed.

I leaned down and pressed my lips to the gland on Kay’s neck, licking his scent. I’d heard it could help kickstart fighting mode, and I had a feeling I’d need it.
