“Same place as yours,” I said on a sigh, rising to my feet and holding out a hand to her.
“On top of a supermodel?”
I huffed a laugh. “Maybe, but more likely on top of an old friend of mine. But, no, I meant not here.”
Her brows rose. “Really? You got double betrayed.”
I nodded. She blinked as sadness filled her eyes.
“I’m sorry. I thought I had it bad, walking in on him with a stranger.”
“Don’t feel too bad for me. I wasn’t really attached.”
“Oh. Did you just start dating?”
“We were together two years. But we weren’t serious.”
She frowned but the car pulled up, so I rose to grab the skates. Once we were both inside, I asked, “How about you?”
“Me?”
“Were you attached?”
She shrugged. “I was and I wasn’t. It’s complicated.”
“I think I can handle it.” I tapped the side of my head.
She blew out and I knew she was about to admit something she wasn’t proud of. I was intrigued. Seeing her flaws excited me because it meant knowing her on a deeper level.
“Apparently, I was settling with him. At least that’s what Madeline said.”
I frowned.
“I know I’m not some amazing goddess, but?—”
I cut her off. “Don’t say that shit. I wasn’t judging you for thinking you were too good for him. I was surprised by you settling at all.”
I saw her throat work in a swallow, and she pressed her lips, looking down. Her hair fell over her face before she spoke. “My boyfriend before him was…” She looked up at me, her eyes clear. “I was dating up.”
“I find that hard to believe.”
“That I was dating up?” Her eyes narrowed as if I offended her.
“No, that you think there’s someoneupfrom you.”
“Well, he was attractive, popular, the life of the party, and I’m nothing like that. Plus, he had women hitting on him all the time.”
“You’re attractive, Little Red. Everyone here seems to love you. And I’m definitely hitting on you.”
She huffed a laugh, her face flushing. “I wasn’t on his level. And attractiveness isn’t just looks, it’s confidence and the way you carry yourself, what interests you… it’s the whole package.”
“And what was his level?” I asked trying to lead her to a place where she realized she was also damn high on the attractive complete package list.
She blinked at me, looking serious. “Kinda like your level.Superfuckinghot.”
I laughed and shook my head. “I’m flattered but you’resuperfuckinghottoo. Sexy, sweet, successful, smart, interesting, you’re everything I want in a woman.”
She rolled her eyes as if to brush off my comments and continued.
