He holds them where they are and leans closer to examine.

“Seriously?”

“There’s a little bit of blood,” he murmurs, glancing down at his penis. “Maybe you should have a nice hot bath so you aren’t sore tomorrow.”

“I’ll have one tomorrow.” I yawn, grabbing his arm and pulling him toward me. “Come cuddle with me. I just had mind-blowing sex with my mate, and I think I’m about to have the best sleep of my life. I lost count of how many orgasms you gave me.”

Males like Salem deserve a special place in heaven for caring about a female’s pleasure so much, even more than their own. My mate is generous in the bedroom, and fucking blessed in the dick department, not to mention, he’s only nice to me and his siblings. I can’t see him being a sleaze or a creep and hitting on other females. Maybe I should test that out?

He holds me all night long, and in the morning, he runs me a bath before work.

While I’m soaking in the hot water, bubbles floating around me, I tell myself that I’m going to tell Salem about my magic soon.

But before that, I’m going to tell him I love him.

And after that?

I’m going to bond with him.

“Where were you last night?” Jagger asks as he steps inside my shop. His brown hair is messy, like he’s been running his fingers through it. “I came to your house, but no one was home.”

“I was out,” I reply, dusting my hands on my apron. “Why don’t you come over tonight for dinner?”

I have to tell Salem to let me spend a little time with my brother. I don’t know how that will go, but I’m not cutting Jagger out of my life.

“Out where?” he presses, his gaze dropping to my wrists. To make sure I’m still without the mating bands?

I need to tell him about Salem.

“Jagger.”

“Listen, I need to borrow some gold coins. I’ll pay you back. I’ve just gotten myself into a little pickle and?—”

“How much?” I ask him, my brow furrowing. It’s not the first time Jagger has wanted to borrow gold, and it likely won’t be the last. He’s always starting new jobs or wanting to open a new business, but nothing has stuck for him, and I end up paying for it.

He was working as a bouncer at the strip club for a while, and I even had his birthday dinner there once, because that’s what he wanted. Okay, and I was curious. Who wouldn’t be? But after Salem tortured him, he quit working there and tried working in one of the inns. That didn’t work out because he slept with his boss’s wife.

“How much do you have?” he asks, and I sigh heavily.

Opening my cash register, I pull out a bag of coins and hand it to him. “That’s all you’re getting. This month is going to be tight as it is because I hired an employee to help me.”

I’m getting tired of enabling him. At some stage, he’s going to have to learn to stand on his own two feet, just like I have. I don’t want to hurt him, but am I making things worse by just giving in to him every time?

How do I say no to my only family?

He eyes the gold and nods. “Okay, thank you. I’ll see you tonight then. What will you be making?”

Salem steps inside next, his eyes narrowing when they land on my brother. “Jagger, how nice to see you. Remember that time I left you alive instead of killing you?”

Jagger scrubs his hand down his face. “Peach, what did I tell you? What is he doing here? Wait, is that where you were last night?”

Salem comes up beside me and tucks me under his arm. “Yes, she was with me last night. And that’s where she’ll be every night from now on.” He pauses and then adds in a dark tone. “And if you think you’re going to stop her from seeing me, there’s a gravestone with your name on it.”

“Salem!” I admonish, flashing my brother an apologetic look. “He doesn’t mean that. Jagger, he’s my mate, okay. And he’s been nothing but good to me. I need you to accept that I’m going to bond with him and?—”

Jagger is already shaking his head before I can even finish the sentence. “He’s a monster! You want to be bonded to that? Think about what you’re doing, Peach!”

“Okay, that’s enough,” Salem snaps, gently maneuvering me behind him. “She’s mine, fuckface. And I’m not going anywhere. Stop upsetting her, or you will leave this bakery in a body bag.”
