Claws and feet flew, and the smell of blood started to perfume the air. I could spot the moment that Courtland’s Beast stopped playing though. His claws became impossible to follow, let alone dodge, but I noted the old Alpha had gotten some good shots in too. A slice in Courtland’s abdomen looked deep, so deep that he was probably only a fraction of an inch from having his insides be his outsides.

Finally, in what seemed like only seconds of battle but had to be more like minutes, Courtland had battered the old Alpha to the ground, and towered over him. “Surrender.”

The old Alpha began scrabbling backwards toward the center of the ring, bleeding profusely, and beaten down beyond doubt, but at least he wasn’t dead. “No,” he croaked, continuing to crab crawl backwards with zero dignity. It was fucking sad.

Courtland shook his head and landed a punishing blow to his midsection, driving him further into the middle of the ring. “Surrender.”

The old Alpha—I should have learned his name, but didn’t care enough to bother—slumped back onto the sand. “I surrender.”

Courtland inclined his head, turning toward the Legion Generals and the crowd. “I am your new Alpha,” he roared, and I watched the scene with pride. The defeated Alpha was still on his back, but he didn’t look too upset.

Which was weird.

His hand slid under the sand and I saw the glint of metal, as he lifted the barrel of the gun to Courtland’s turned back.

I had my gun out and pointed at the fucking coward when suddenly, he wasn’t there anymore.

Well, his head was there. My eyes searched the arena and I saw the headless corpse of the previous Alpha in the arms of one of the vampires.

Fucking Lucius.

Holy shit.

In one hand, he held the detached wrist of the old Alpha, still clutching the gun, and he had his other hand buried in the Alpha’s ribcage, holding him up like a side of beef on a hook.

“Lucius!” Raine, that was her name, hissed at the ancient vampire, whose face was somehow smeared in blood, like he’d stopped for a sip in that nanosecond it had taken to kill a fully grown, extremely powerful Manix.

“What? He broke the rules. A coward's act deserves a coward's end.” Lucius grinned, and his teeth were stained red. “Plus, he’s kind of delicious and I wanted to taste a Manix before we had to go home and you said I couldn’t taste anyone innocent.” He said all this in a monotone voice like it was entirely reasonable. Shrugging, he dropped the body of the Alpha General to the ground, and I watched the crowd for any other attacks. It looked fine.

Well, everyone looked completely shell-shocked, but fine.

Courtland snarled at the vampire, who just watched him impassively. “I am Alpha.”

Suddenly, the fucking Executioner was there, grinning as he grabbed the crazy as fuck vampire. “Yeah, mate. You’re the Alpha. We got you. You’re welcome, by the way,” he said with a wink, before turning to Lucius. “Let’s go home.” Then they both disappeared.

Raine pinched the bridge of her nose. “Sorry about that. Congrats, I guess? I’ll be in touch.” Then she was gone too.

One of the Legion Generals stood, kneeling on the sand. Theodore, that was his name. Not a bad guy. “Alpha,” he said loud and clear, and the other Legion Generals followed suit. We’d still have to keep an eye on them, despite their pledging of allegiance.

In a wave, every person in the arena knelt, and I looked over my shoulder to see Radic, a pale-faced Bonnie, and a trembling Pryce all doing the same thing. I’d pledged my loyalty to Courtland a long time ago, but I sank to my knees as well.

Later, I would show him what else I could do while on my knees, but right now he needed a show of respect.

Courtland spun in a circle, taking in his new subjects and then strode out of the arena, blood still streaming down his front. I knew the look in his eye though. I looked at Bonnie.

“Get him to the infirmary before he collapses in front of them all,” I murmured, and she rushed toward him, hovering close to him but not touching him as she asked questions in a low, calm voice.

I turned to Radic and Pryce. “His Beast and bloodlust are riding him hard, and once he’s patched up, he’s going to want to fight or fuck. My money is on the latter. So if you don’t want to be in that position—and to clarify, that position is bent over with a dick in your ass—I suggest you head home now. One of the men will take you, to make sure there are no repercussions from today. If you’re cool, I’ll meet you in the infirmary.”

With that, I turned and jogged toward the small building that was acting as an infirmary. To be honest, it wasn’t just Courtland whose blood was pounding with bloodlust. Watching the man I’d wanted so bad for so long almost die by a bullet to the back had my wolf baying, and I was barely holding on as it was with the scent of blood and gore in here. No, there was only one place for me to be right now, and that was with my Alpha.

Post-fight orgy, here I fucking come.

Pryce

Iwatched Dominic’s shoulders as he jogged away, disappearing into the crowd before my brain even had time to catch up with his words. Radic remained beside me, but he seemed torn. He didn’t want to leave me, that much was obvious, but the heavy scent of lust pouring off him told me he wanted whatever it was that Dominic was offering.
