I wanted to tell him he could call me Sir, and I would stroke that pretty golden hair while he knelt beside my feet. Probably too far though, for now.

“You traitorous little fuck,” the Alpha General growled, leaping toward the Beta. I was across the room with my hand around the Alpha’s throat in an instant. Sweeping out his legs, I slammed him backward, his head hitting the polished wood floor with a thud.

“No,” I growled low, and I heard someone whimper as my power flooded the room. “You do not touch him. Do you submit?”

The Alpha General spat in my face, the warm saliva sliding down my cheek. “Never.”

I bared my teeth. “Fine, your death is your choice.” I tightened my grip, and then there was a hand around my wrist. I looked up, briefly glancing at my Pack, their guns all raised at the doors of the office.

“Wait,” the Beta said softly, loosening his grip around my wrist as I met his eyes. He was so close I could taste his scent on my tongue. “There's a protocol for this. You have to do it right, or you’ll be fighting challenges forever.”

I gave him a feral grin. “I like fighting, and I don’t need forever. I just need until they are well.”

The Beta looked down at me with something like disappointment. “So the getting to know your kin thing was bullshit?”

Ah, he had me there. I released the old Alpha’s throat, standing back up so I could look down at the Beta. “Your name?”

“Radic.”

Radic. I tasted his name on my tongue—it felt good. “You will arrange it?”

He nodded, but looked down hesitantly at the Alpha General. Then he straightened his shoulders. “Yes. But it might be best if I do it from my home office.”

I gritted my teeth at the idea that he could be in danger. “Is there some place for us to stay?”

He paused for a long moment, his eyes searching my face, and then the men behind me. Finally, he nodded again. “I know a place.”

He grabbed up his stuff and stepped around the desk. The aging Alpha climbed to his feet. “You’re fired, you fucking lizard,” he growled, and Radic tensed his jaw.

“Sir, I honestly think you have bigger problems right now.” With that, he strode through the two groups of armed men like they were nothing. I grinned at his back before looking over at Dominic, who was staring at Radic’s ass. I knew that Dominic liked men and women. I believed the sexuality of supernaturals was more fluid by necessity, so it had never fazed me, outside of giving me aching balls. Because as much as I loved my Beta, emotional attachments in the business we’d been in was a weakness.

A little voice in the back of my head reminded me we weren’t in that business anymore. My dick gave a throb of agreement. Fuck. Now was not the time. I looked over at the Omega who would soon be mine, and saw him watching me intently with eyes that noticed too much.

I gave him a tight smile, and stepped closer to him. My hand was on my gun, but I wouldn’t need it against any of the soldiers in this room. I could kill them all easily, or make them bow to my will.

“Are the babies getting heavy? Would you like me to hold one?”

They were twins, but the smaller of the two was pale. I didn’t like it. I would ask Radic to direct us to a doctor before our lodgings. Pryce had told us not to name them, and the pain in his eyes had torn at my insides. He handed me the slightly brighter baby, who had his father’s bright blue eyes.

I made eye contact with every single one of the soldiers who bracketed the hall on the way back to our vehicle. Most of them dropped their eyes, though some looked at me with hostility. More concerning though, were the ones that looked at me with something like hope. What was going on in this town that they would look at a stranger like that?

Once we reached the SUV, I noted that all my men had their weapons drawn, as well as Rosa. “Put the gun down, Rosa. It’s fine.”

Rosa threw me a look that could only be perfected by teenage girls. It was partyou’re an idiotand partdon’t tell me what to do.

“Umm, they’re pointing guns at us, Court.”

“He challenged the Alpha General. It would be against our laws for them to shoot him or any of you,” Radic said. I had a feeling he wasn’t really talking to Rosa, but the rest of the town that had now gathered around. He looked over his shoulder at me. “Let’s go.”

I raised an eyebrow at his tone, and Dominic actually laughed. Radic flushed pink but didn’t backtrack, and I could appreciate that.

I waved at the passenger door. “Sit up front. You can navigate.” I paused as the tiny bundle in my arms moved. “But first, the medical office, if we could.”

Radic’s eyes dropped to my arms, his face softening. “Absolutely.”
