At last, I can kiss the ground but never in front of this guy.

“Come on,” he pulled me a bit towards one of the wall. If I look around, it’s a massive area. Hundreds of people can fit in here. I can’t even see the other end.

“Now, before we go in, try to stick with me, okay? I don’t want you getting lost.”

“Why, there are many people here?”

He moved and now he is in front of me, but he’s still holding me up with both of his hands on my waist. He peered into my face. “Look at you, you can finally talk.” He tried to smile but it was lopsided. “Yeah, look I’m sorry. I should not have done that stupid thing back there.”

I probably hit my head or I’m dead. “You’re apologizing?” I was dumbstruck.

He scowled at me. “You’re probably okay by now if you’re going to antagonize me again.”

“Antagonize you? How about you antagonize - no, how about you just tried to kill me back then?” Yes, I am shouting at his face. “Don’t you dare roll your eyes at me again, you shit head!”

“Shit head? Shit head? Nobody calls me that.”

“Oh yeah? Well, I just did!”

“If you don’t behave, I will not bring you inside.”

“As if I care about what’s inside!”

Someone cleared his throat.

“Shut up, Brynn! This is so like Zirc to pick up astray.”

“Like he picked you up!”

“Children!”

It was a deep resonating voice that echoed the hollow chambers.

We both looked to the front and saw Roo glaring at us. Beyond him, a door magically appeared. It’s color camouflaged against the rock wall.

Coone stepped in front of me and crossed his arms in front of his chest. As if he needs to protect me from Roo. I sidestepped him. He tried to keep me behind him.

I can see Roo looks irritated at the same time amused by us.

“Will you stop it,” I shoved Coone’s arm away. “I know this guy. Roo, whatever brings you to this place?”

Roo raised one of his eyebrows. Yes, he looks very amused now.

“There’s no need to have two guards for thishuman.”

A guard? I know they assigned Roo as my guard back in the mansion and to the courtyard where I’m free to roam. Whatever could be inside the door? I can see some movement but it’s hard to see with Coone and Roo blocking my view. Roo is way taller than Coone but Roo seems to defer to Coone.

“I know,” Roo acknowledged. “Master Crix advised that I buy something for Brynn. As a gift.”

Silence. They were having a staring contest. I still suspect they are telepaths or just measuring each other. Finally, Coone snorted and step forward, bypassing Roo. “Fine, whatever. Let’s see how fast you will lose her,” Coone said as he walked away from us.

For some reason, I felt apologetic on behalf of that guy. I opened my mouth but Roo’s arm swept to his right side and said, “After you.”

I rolled my eyes this time. I remembered he liked to be twelve steps away from me. The most is about 6 feet away. I walked forward. Just beyond the door, I stopped.

I think I just stepped into an alternate universe.
