Chapter Five
Brynn
Ilooked out the window. The sun is beginning to rise but no signs of Roqs. After feeding me again, he said he has some business to get to and promptly left carrying his bag with him. I still see some of the bags he carried from his vehicle, car, whatever earlier. I do not see any similar vehicles entering this town. Mostly they are mounted on a horse with different shapes and sizes. By shape, meaning they sometimes look like a horse, a zebra or even a donkey. This planet is a contrast of all sorts. They have power sources from crystals, the electricity seems to come from solar powered panels, but their way of life is like I’m thrown back to the Wild West era. And this town does not look peaceful. I can hear some shouting, and I hear some fights going on from an alley near this inn.
I looked at the door. Someone’s turning the key carefully. I took one of the stools that had a broken leg. It is the only thing I can carry easily and goes behind the door. Roqs failed to give me some sort of warning signal to let him know it’s him at the other side of this door.
The door needs to be oiled. It is squeaky, same with the lock. But the door is opening slowly. Unlike when Roqs simply barged into the room yesterday.
I lifted the stool and waited, holding my breath. When the person opens the door, he will see the bed first. The person paused. I took the chance and stepped forward and tried to bash the person. I filled my lungs with air at the same time in case I needed to scream.
The chair flew out of my hands and smashed towards the walls. The force is staggering. It ended up as bits of wood.
I looked back and saw Roqs’ thunderous face. He looks livid.
Oops, I inwardly cringed.
“What are you doing?” he hissed silently.
I saw his right hand gripping the door handle tightly. His tail lashing. Like an agitated cat for sure.
I flinched and would have jumped out of my skin when he forcefully closed the door with a bang. I swear the walls shook a little.
“I’m ah - I’m sorry!” I tried to look small but failed. I decided to look at the window again. “I thought you were someone else.”
He took a step towards me. Involuntarily, I stepped back.
“What? You’re expecting someone else?” he sounds really scary when he talks quietly. I would rather he raves at me madly than this controlled sound.
“No. I thought you were someone else trying to break into the room!’
He tilted my head towards his face, so I had no choice but to look at him. The sun is against him so I can’t entirely see what he looks like, but I can see his hair is a bit wet and he smells clean.
“I see. That is good.” He let go of me and he went towards one of his bags.
“Here, take this.” He threw something towards me and what do you know, I was able to catch it.
It was made of some leather that looked like iron. But it is light. It resembled, wait. It does resemble a small knife sheath in leather. I pulled it out. It blinked against the sun.
I got a small diamond sword.
“Is this a precious sword?” I said admiringly.
“No, it’s common.” I could hear him move around the room, but I was too busy staring at the small sword, knife, dagger, whatever. A girl knows her diamond and this one is pure! He said this is common.
The end of the dagger is black, and I thought it’s iron or it could be not. It fits perfectly into my hand.
“Is this a magical sword?” I asked and saw him standing near the foot of the bed, hands akimbo and looking at me.
“It’s not a sword. It’s a dagger.”
His eyes are twinkling. What’s so funny about this sword? And his mood swings are scary. From angry to humorous.
I squinted my eyes at him, and he laughed out loud.
What? Is this a fake knife? Dagger?
I waved it at him. “Is this a fake one?”
