He cut me off by passing between me and Roqs. He looked at the shelves as if searching for something.

“I’m sorry,” I said timidly. He stiffened his shoulder.

“Don’t worry, little one,” Roqs said. “It’s not you. He just realized the error of his way.”

Zirc drew small daggers on the shelf. I feel bad about his crystal.

“Can we still repair it?” I looked up to Roqs. He sighed and gently placed the crystal back to my hand.

I looked at it. It’s been chipped off really bad that now it has almost two sharp edges that helped me a lot to survive.

I saw Roqs slowly approach Zirc. “You did not teach Brynn about the tech.”

Great, now Roqs is reprimanding Zirc.

“It’s okay,” I told them and got near them. “I - if there’s a way to fix this, let me know.”

Zirc looked at me. “Nothing we can do about it, Brin. Roqs is right.”

“It did help me a lot when I was alone.”

That seemed to appease the two big guys.

“I’ll add another dagger for you in case you lose the one chosen by Roqs.”

“Okay,” I nodded. I’m not one to rely on other people. It made me want to cry but I held back my tears.

I was always independent. I had a job. Now I have no job, no family, no friends. And I felt like crying simply because these two guys in front of me took pity on me.

How can I be so lucky?

“You okay?” Roqs enquired.

Zirc looked down after that.

I nodded. I was trying hard to hold back my tears by biting my lips. My face probably looked ugly.

“Do you need to take a dump?” Zirc asked, his eyebrows furrowed as if trying to read my face.

I lost it. I laughed out loud. Tears burst from my eyes but at least they knew it was from laughing.

I saw in my peripheral vision that Roqs looked at Zirc as if asking what’s going on. Zirc simply raised his shoulders. That felt like home. There are some similarities between humans and these aliens.

I hugged them both and felt them stiffen.

“Now is not the time for that, little one,” Roqs said. I laughed again. Men. They always have sex in mind no matter the species.

“That’s true,” I said in between laughter and tears. I completely dried my tears with my hands and stepped back.

I wonder how I can repay their kindness to me?

“I’m okay,” I said and smiled at them. They don’t look convinced. “I’m really okay.”

The two paused and looked at me. I just remained standing, my hands behind my back. I was trying to restrain myself from hugging them again.

The two were finally convinced and resumed their shopping. I listened to their voices as they discussed the daggers. Citing their pros and cons. I wonder if they are costly? I hope they only buy me one. Or two at most.

I left them to their discussion and went to the shelf near the door. I glanced at the mirror near it and saw that the storekeeper was not alarmed. Maybe they have another way of monitoring shoplifting.
