Clearing his throat, Roqs addressed Brin. “So, how’s your food?”

That is lame, even for Roqs’ standard. He’s probably remembering what happened five years ago.

But Brin answered. “It was actually good. But no, don’t tell me what it is or where it came from. I might bring it out again.”

“Why?” Roqs was persistent or he’s lacking any topic to pursue.

“Well, it tastes like meat to me. The kind of meat that is also found in my world. Yet I can see so many claws in there.”

Both me and Roqs looked at the plate she’s pointing at. I haven’t finished everything, only half of the meat. Looking at the many claws, I realized the fowl is an adult size to have this many claws. It would have been better if there were fewer but only the Purple Tribe gets the choice meat. But it’s not too old to have too many so the meat tasted just right.

Roqs took the half portion of the meat and chewed out the claws in his hand. Brin looked green and wanted to puke. Roqs broke out in a huge grin, so he deserves my slap on the back of his head.

He reacted as if he did not feel anything and continued to grin at Brin who took a glass of the mead. Which she promptly spewed out.

It was so magnificent! Even those in the nearby table stopped for a moment to check what’s going on. Now both Roqs and I are grinning from ear to ear.

“Good for you Brin!” Roqs said. “Who knew you could do that so splendidly.”

“Yeah, now I know when I need a distraction, I’ll let you eat the mead.”

Brin was coughing a bit and asked in between gulps of breath, “What. What is that?”

Chuckling, I merely took the mead from her and gulped it down in one breath. Ah, tastes refreshing. There should be nothing wrong with her drink.

“It takes some time for people to get used to this. It’s a mead.”

“As my friend is saying,” Roqs said when there’s a great pause as if she’s waiting for me to explain more. “It’s more concentrated than our regular water.”

“You mean your salty water?” her tone sounded a bit accusing.

“Salty? It tastes just right. Here, try it again.” Roqs pushed his mead to her hand, but she refused to even touch it. “You’re probably just surprised with the taste. But I assure you, it tastes great.”

“No, I don’t think so.”

“Just try it.” Roqs took her hand and forced her palm to grip the mug. “It actually tastes sweet after some time.”

Nekos like sweet things unlike us Manasties. We can’t taste the sweetness in the food. It’s surprising that she doesn’t like one. Yet, the more I look at her, the more I know that she’s not a Neko. Her race is different.

Brin took the mug and slowly sipped. Roqs looks ready to force her to drink but I’ll deck him if he does that. It’s good he decided not to.

Brin continued to drink some more. Good, she’s beginning to eat and drink. She needs to keep up her strength if I plan to do things with her and Roqs.

Later.

Chapter Nine

Brynn

Ifeel a bit nervous with Zirc. It is strange considering I know him longer than Roqs. I glanced at him again. Though he is talking to Roqs, he is still looking at me. I feel bad for Roqs. I know how unrequited love means. Roqs kept looking at Zirc. The way his body is almost turned towards him. He looked relaxed in his seat. Not slouching.

Both of them looked relaxed but I don’t think they were too relaxed to let down their guard. For one, I am weary of the people around us at the pub. So, all of them are men. I was expecting other exotic female species at least.

Maybe they are hiding them.

I stiffened.

I felt a tail grasp my left leg.
