“You can rest now, little one. Gods know you need more meat in your little frame. I will scold Zirc for feeding you only thathirly.”

When did he start calling me little one?

I was about to retort but my eyes suddenly felt sleepy. I felt a heaviness in my body.

“Sorry little one. Seems like you’ll have to get used to this. The air here is thinner. You can go to sleep. When you wake up, we’ll reach our destination.”

My last view before my eyes closed was the outline of his face. Some patches of midnight black fur along his jaw but he looked almost aristocratic.

Chapter Three

Brynn

When I woke up, the suns were shining again. It was like coming out of a deep sleep in a long tunnel. Whatever woke me up is busy slurping beside me.

I struggled to sit straight. Thank goodness there is no drool. It was that kind of deep sleep.

I saw Roqs busy slurping noodles that looked like octopus’ legs. His cheeks looked like a chipmunk as he chewed. Am I dreaming? Because he is holding what looked like chopsticks. He is using those two silver points to hold the octopus looking noodles.

My stomach growled when I saw the bowl was steaming hot.

He looked sideways at me. But he was distracted as he said, “You can press that small button to your right and then press whatever you want.”

Then he went back to look in front of him. I only noticed now that he has a tablet of some sort suspended with a thick metal from the top lining of the dashboard. I wonder where it came from. It was all sorts of strange texts though. Not all text looked like a worm. There is a video in half of the 10-inch white tablet. I glimpsed and saw it was a half-naked man. I hope he’s not watching porn while eating.

My stomach growled again.

“Better feed your beast before it eats me, little one,” he said absently and slurped loudly. Ugh, I hope the food is good. The last time I was fed something broth back in the Blue Tribe, I had to purge myself. Some things were moving in my bowl back then. Whatever he is eating though smells heavenly and it is hot.

I hope he’s only joking when he said that beasts eat others. He was too busy to pay me any attention.

I clicked the small button at the right. In fact, there were a few buttons on this console which is made of just plain stainless-steel buttons. There was no paint in any part of this metal frame.

I eased back a little when a hologram appeared near my face. There were some small pictures with little scribblings on it. Cool, it’s a menu. And glad there are pictures.

I placed a finger and swiped. And what do you know it worked!

“Glad to know you can operate that,” Roqs said beside me while chewing.

I glanced at him. I thought he was going to make fun of me but he’s still busy eating while looking at his tablet.

I glanced back to the hologram. Weird that it's a hologram and not a tablet. Now this looks futuristic. But the menu is so alien I’m too scared now to try anything. I tried to pick a bowl with nice little cut meat that looked like beef. I pointed my finger toward it.

Then saw Roqs hand reach out. “Better not try that, Brynn. I don’t think you’re ready for that kind of food.”

“But it looked so much like the food on our planet!”

He looked at me strangely. Then shrugged his shoulders. “Ok then.” Then he pressed something on the hologram, his bowl carefully balanced on his lap.

The food slid out of the stainless-steel compartment. This gives a new meaning to fresh from the oven. How interesting you can order food like this. I wonder how it worked. Is there a vacuumed sealed portion of each menu and then will grow big when selected? Or is it teleported from a restaurant?

I quickly grabbed the bowl. A set of chopsticks appeared. Good thing I like Chinese food as well, so I learned how to use them. I am so prepared for this fateful trip to Japan. Who knew fate decided to throw me to the farthest end of the universe and still gave me the chance to use my skills in using the chopsticks.

I blew some air into the bowl.

“What are you doing?” asked the man beside me. I decided to ignore him. “I see, it’s too hot for you. Your tongue is that thin?”

I took the chopsticks which are a bit heavy. I twirled and took my first bite.
