“So true Ist. This is why we must stop the Elders for taking what is rightfully ours. For the people. Imagine having a child of your own. We have to rely on incubators to have children. And this tale about true mates. Who gave the Elders the right to say only true mates can have children thus they have the right to have a female egg? We knew. We saw. There was a time when people do not need to have true mates. In our history that the Elders had burned or stashed. We saw that Before, true mates are just one man and one female. Why do they need to suppress it if they keep saying that the female eggs harvested before the plague is enough to last for a millennia?”

“Have you seen what it can do?,” the third man kept insisting about the relic. As if he doesn’t care about their cause.

I shivered uncontrollably. Just at the same time I heard a loud roar from outside.

I heard movements.

Lots and lots of growling, swish of a sword and a gun being fired multiple times.

“Make way Ist.”

“We can’t fight him!”, Ist said hysterically.

I shivered and made my way towards the end of the slab. As I was about to dangle my legs at the end, my back towards the chaos behind me, I heard then I saw something collide on the cave wall opposite me. I saw it was something huge. With lots and lots of metallic silver and black fur.

Mangled fur.

The sight is so grotesque, the hair coarse like a street rat. I thought I smelled the sewer but it could be that my mind is playing tricks on me.

I can only see the lower half of the body of what they said is called the Silver Beast.

The stance of his legs reminds me that of a werewolf. Which is a strange anomaly in a planet full of felines!

“Don’t move,” I heard someone hissed behind me.

Ist.

A loud roar reverberated around the cave. I can feel it through my bones. My ears tingled towards the end. This probably felt like being in the vicinity of a nuclear bomb. I can’t hear a thing, nothing.

What happened next felt like walking in a syrup. Time slowed down but it will be forever embedded in my memory.

I felt something hit my back. I turned and saw the back of Ist. Two large holes permeated his body, so large I can see the faces of two men. One man grim while the one holding his gun had a shocked look on his eyes.

He realized the same time I realized. Those bullets would have obliterated my middle. I remember the last time he talked, Ist was near my head.

Ist?

Why would he –

I was too shocked.

I barely felt large claws that scooped me up from the stone. Tears ran down my face but I caught sight of the stone slab I was at. Ist lying down on it as rocks fall from the cave ceiling. And the two men ran away by creating a huge hole in one of the wall caves.

My vision blurred and I realized I was too shocked to care about what’s happening.

Iwiped away the tears in my eyes. Still, my vision is blurred.

No, it can’t be! I can’t hear a thing and I can’t see.

I looked down and saw huge black claws around my waist. They were so huge. This beast is probably as high as 14 feet or maybe more since it reached the height of the cave’s ceiling.

I tried to shove my hands at the claws surrounding me. Of course, It won’t budge.

Then I realized my vision is not blurred. With my hearing gone, it was hard to sense anything. We are moving too fast. I can see some outline of things here and there but I also felt just now wind. When the beast turned, I felt a wind. Wasitorheshielding me?
