I grabbed my pack and checked my comm unit before heading home. Going the opposite direction as the rest of my team still felt weird, but I was glad I had the opportunity to go home to my family, that we all lived on the same planet now.
I climbed up the stairs to our home. Utahn hadn’t wanted to open the bakery at this point, but he already had several loyal customers. He baked when Reeve slept or when I was there to take care of our son.
Inside, everything was quiet, something I wasn’t used to when I came home after practice. Usually Reeve was babbling, playing with his toys, while Utahn prepared dinner. Instead, I found them both asleep, curled up on a reclining chair. They both must have had a tiring day.
I hung my pack and slipped my shoes off in the foyer, careful not to wake either of them.
In the kitchen, I washed up then found a package of mlim beans in touj sauce in the cupboard. The type of meal Utahn kept on hand for nights like these. Even I could prepare this meal.
I emptied the package into a dish then placed it in the reconstitutor. Easy peasy. While that part of the meal was being prepared, I washed and peeled some fresh alomano, a fruit only found on Eurebly that Utahn had taken a liking to.
Reeve whimpered from the other room. I turned around to see him stretching as he woke up. Rushing to his side, I picked him up and carried him to the bathroom. Utahn had been working hard to get our son to use the potty, and I wanted to help, too.
I don’t think Reeve fully woke up until after he’d used the potty. He looked up at me from the little seat, with wide eyes and a big smile. “Apba.”
“Hi, little guy. Did you have a good day?”
He nodded with exaggerated movements, almost knocking himself off the potty. Then he raised his hands into the air. “Up.”
“Let’s get you washed first.”
As we left the bathroom, we met my mate in the hall. He gave me a sleepy smile before he rose to his toes for a sweet kiss. My heart still raced every time he kissed me. Some days, I found it hard to believe he liked me, let alone loved me.
I left him to use the bathroom in peace, taking Reeve into the kitchen and buckling him into his chair so I could finish preparing dinner.
I scooped the beans into separate dishes then topped them with some grated pleet and a sprig of larap. Then I placed the sliced alomano on the side, extra small pieces for Reeve to chew with his little teeth.
About to take the dishes to the table, I felt arms wrap around my waist.
Utahn rested his head against my back. “I really did find the perfect alpha.”
I turned in his arms, wanting to embrace him as well, but I knocked one of the dishes of food into the sink in the process.
After a heavy sigh, I cleaned up the mess I’d made. “Perfect, huh?”
Utahn giggled, taking the other dishes to the table before I knocked them over, too. “Perfect for me.”
In moments like this, I doubted that, but maybe we were perfect for each other. I’d never once imagined myself mated to anyone else. I only wish the universe—with some help from my brothers—had brought us together sooner. Though perhaps we got together right when we needed to.
