Utahn chuckled. “Me, too. I’m sure it will start soon.”
To be honest, I didn’t care if they won or not. I simply wanted to see Ojo. We’d chatted at least once a week since parting ways on Rennir. Usually more often, getting to know each other personally. Though, I still felt some sexual tension every time I saw him on screen. He was hot, and my brain remembered what it was like to be with him, to feel him inside me, and holding me, whenever I laid eyes on him. We’d had video sex using our comm units a few times, when I was sure the rest of my household was sleeping, but it wasn’t the same as being with him. I don’t know how I had made it through an entire week of seeing him in person without jumping him. And I didn’t want to wait any longer. I needed my Ojo fix.
“Daddy! Daddy!” Enif shook my shoulder, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Look! Dey’re gedding ready to stard!”
I glanced at the starting hangar, where all the jets had moved to the front. The race was definitely about to begin. I rubbed my hands together. “I wonder if they’ll win this one.”
Enif sighed then dramatically threw herself onto my lap. “Of course dey’ll win. Dey’re ORIXA.”
Utahn chuckled beside me. “She’s right, you know.”
My omega father gripped my chair and leaned forward. “I agree. I did give birth to two of them.”
I rolled my eyes at the sentiment. He said that every time he watched a race, one of the reasons I had stopped going over to their place to watch. “There are three other members of the team you didn’t give birth to, you know.”
“Yes, I do know.” He sat back with a huff. “And I’m sure their parents are proud of them, too.”
I disagreed since Qé and Xac didn’t have parents, and Ojokun had never mentioned his. Yet, I didn’t have a chance to argue as the green start light flashed to signify the beginning of the race.
Jets darted out of the hangar structure right away. One after the other. So fast. Too fast. I gripped the arms of my chair, suddenly worried for the safety of the entire team. I never realized how quickly those jets moved until I saw them fly in person.
I glanced at the large screen, divided into different images, to see the location of each team. Team Storm seemed to be in the lead, which I knew no one on ORIXA would stand for. Team Light took the lead shortly after, but there were jets from Storm and ORIXA among them. Everything went at breakneck speed; it was hard to keep track of everyone’s positions.
During the first few laps of the course, the lead team changed constantly, and the crowd in the stadium cheered every time the racers flew over. After a while, the excitement died down a bit. The cheers not as loud, and the whoosh of jets fading into the background noise. Everyone in the booth started to get hungry, so I left to get some food for us all.
After we’d eaten, my fathers got up behind me.
“Well.” My alpha father held onto my chair. “Your father and I are going to head to the hotel. As entertaining as the first few laps were, I’m afraid I’m going to get all cramped up when I fall asleep in this uncomfortable chair.”
I stood to face them. “I get it. I knew these races lasted a long time, but it seems even longer when not in the comfort of your own home.”
“Exactly.” My omega father came around to kneel in front of my daughter. “Ennie, did you want to come with us?”
“No!” She squirmed in her seat until she was pressed against the very back of her chair. “I wanna see Ojo and m’ uncles.”
“You’ll see them tomorrow night.” My omega father held out his hand. “Ret and Genj will join us for dinner tomorrow.”
She shook her head vehemently. “No, no, no. I wanna stay.”
“It’s okay if she wants to stay.” I ruffled Enif’s hair. “The race is three-quarters over already.”
My omega father rose to standing and joined my other father at the door. “All right. We’ll see you later, then.”
Not long after that, I thought Enif regretted staying. Or maybe I regretted letting her. She was upside down in her chair, her head dangling beyond the edge of the seat and her feet kicking in the air. Yet, that wasn’t the part that annoyed me. She kept reaching over to pinch my leg before erupting in fits of giggles.
“I’ll make you laugh.” Utahn shoved me over to sit in his seat while he tickled my daughter.
She giggled more, swatting at his hands.
Until an extra-low-flying jet zoomed over us. Enif fell onto the floor, while Utahn and I both ducked.
My heart raced as I peeked up at the screen, hoping there hadn’t been a crash. Nope. According to the commentator, Ojokun had pulled ahead of everyone and, for some reason, decided to do a really close flyby. Maybe my brother was right. Ojo was cocky.
“I’m going to smack him when I see him,” Utahn grumbled.
I helped my daughter back into her seat. “You okay?”
Her eyes were wide as she watched other jets fly over, though nowhere near as close. “Yeah! Dat was cool! Ojo is cool!”
