I wasn’t surprised none of my teammates came to meet me when the craft landed in the spaceport. I assumed they’d either be sleeping or reviewing some new maneuvers we planned to try during our practice later that night. Yet, when I walked into my dorm, I found them all in the common area, watching a hologram video. Everyone turned to look at me, and Ret flicked off the video.
“So, what’s this I hear about you spending your entire fuck vacation with my brother and niece?”
Stars.I’d simply wanted to go to my room, message Vawn I got here safely, as he’d requested, and get in a few hours of sleep before training started. Instead, I had to deal with my snoopy teammates. Is that why they were all still up?
I sighed. “First of all, while I did originally go to Rennir for some action, I didn’t get my dick wet. Not even once. But, yes, I did spend most of my vacation with Vawn and Enif. Utahn, too.”
Genj leaped off the couch. “Utahn was there?”
“Yeah.” I set my bags down and smirked, suddenly understanding much of what Utahn had muttered under his breath while I’d been at the beach house. I hadn’t realized his thing for Genj was reciprocated. “It was actually his idea to go to Rennir. So, I introduced him to some of the other racers I’d gone with. He went out with them a couple times and seemed to enjoy himself. Always came back smiling.”
Genj’s face paled right before Ret shoved him out of the way.
“Why?” Ret tilted his head. “Why would you, as a space racer, give up a week of fucking to spend that time with my baby brother and his daughter?”
I shrugged. “Don’t know, but I had a lot of fun.”
Qé chuckled. “Never thought he’d be the first to settle.”
I lifted an eyebrow. “I’m not settling. We’re friends, okay?”
Ret lunged toward me and shoved me in the chest. “Friends? So, he’d be cool if you went out and fucked someone else? I don’t think so.”
I raised my hands. “Who said I was going to go and fuck anyone? I had plenty of opportunity on Rennir but never did. Back off.”
He pointed his finger at me. “You’d better not be stringing him along. Don’t you dare hurt him.”
I picked up my bag then stepped past my team leader. “It was your brother who said we were friends. But, go off, I guess. I’m sure the idea of us having any type of relationship burns your brain, since you hate me so much.”
“I don’t hate you,” Ret said from behind me.
I laughed. “Could’ve fooled me. But, hey, if we someday become family, I’ll have even more ways to get on your nerves.”
“Family?” Xac smacked Qé. “Sounds more serious than friendship.”
“I don’t know what it is we have right now. It’s still new.” I was about to leave when I remembered something important. “Oh, and speaking of family, we’re all going to meet the rest of Ret’s and Genj’s soon.”
“What?” they both said at the same time.
I chuckled to myself. “Yeah. Neither of you ever thought to invite them to a race, so I did. Vawn and Enif. Your parents, too. Oh, and Utahn. They’re coming to the race on Gaunb.”
“Utahn?” Genj rubbed the back of his neck. “Why would you do that to me? I won’t be able to concentrate.”
“I’ve invited them,” Ret half-shouted and half-whined. “Someone in my family would always say they were too busy.”
“Well, they all agreed to come to that race.” I yawned, ready to get some sleep. “So, yeah.”
“You’re trying to get in good with my parents, aren’t you?” Ret crossed his arms. “Get them on your side.”
“Actually, it was your brother who suggested they come.” I sighed and headed to my room. “Regardless, I want you all to stay out of my relationship with Vawn. Especially you, Ret.”
Without giving any of them a chance to respond, I waved my wrist in front of the sensor for my room, went inside, and let the door shut behind me. I didn’t unpack my bag, only flopped on the bed before sending a message to Vawn.
At the dorm now but got interrogated by your brother as soon as I stepped inside.
Sorry about that, Vawn replied right away.He called, for some strange reason, as soon as I got home. I wasn’t going to tell him that I saw you or that I was on Rennir. But, when he talked to Enif, she told him she met you.So, I had to explain everything.
Well, he only shoved me. Didn’t punch me. He reacted better than I expected.No bruises for me to worry about, which I was thankful for. I expected Ret to react much worse.
