“I promised you that last night wouldn’t be the only night we’d spend together and, Dylan, I’d really like to keep that promise if you’re up for it.”

“I’m game if you are,” he said with a grin.

He wrapped his arms tight around her, relishing the warmth of her embrace and the promise of her kiss.

EPILOGUE

Three months later

“So, whatcha working on?” Raleigh asked, trying to look innocent as she pushed Dylan’s chair back from his large wooden desk and plunked her butt in his lap.

“No. Oh, no. Uh-uh. I’m not telling you a thing.” Dylan shook his head and slammed his laptop closed on his desk before putting his arms around her. “We’ve talked about this. You can't look at my clients, hoping to dig up dirt for your next story.”

She tried to sound miffed. “How many times have I toldyouit’s not digging up dirt. It’s investigating. That’s what I do. I am an investigative reporter.” She beamed at him.

“Well, investigate somewhere else,” he growled.

She wiggled a little bit in his lap. “Do you really want me to go? I mean I can go back to my place if you want. Although yours has a better view of the river. She looked over his shoulder at the boats moving along the East River. “It looks cold out there today.”

Groaning he said, “Yes, it looks cold out there but it’s November in Brooklyn so that’s about right and no I don’t want you to go to your place.” He shook his head. You’re incorrigible. Ever since you wrote the stalker story, you just can’t leave it alone. I can’t talk about my cases.”

“We could make another deal. You can tell me about them, and then when you say the word, I can write about them.”

“No, I won’t be your source at Risk.”

“You could be my unnamed source.”

“No way. Who would believe that? You agreed to write about other things besides my jobs. People won’t trust me if they think I’m feeding you stories.”

“But I’m bored. Nothing interesting is going on. I wrote about Calvin Clark and his arrest for assault, and I’ve written the whole stalker thing to death as well. My new boss expects new material. If I don’t come up with something soon, I’ll be back at the flower shows.” She pouted at him.

He shook his head. “That’s not going to work.”

She stuck her tongue out at him.

“Why don’t you look at some of the big corporations in the city. See what they’re up to? Corporations are always up to something that hurts the little guy. Poke around a bit. Or check out the city and state government. Surely someone is scamming something somewhere that you can mess around in. Find something. Investigate.”

“Hmm. Maybe I’ll do that, but you’re going to regret not sharing with me. You’re going to ask me for a favor at some point and I’m going to say ‘nope.’” She started to get off his lap.

He hauled her back down. “Well, I didn’t mean this very minute. I’m quite sure there’s something I can give you right now that you might wanna investigate.”

She laughed and then gave in to his kiss.
