She nodded, glancing back at Luka, and her features softened. “Then let’s go.”
“You have a very anxious king and queen waiting for you,” the silver-haired female drawled as she stepped from the mirror gate, her husband at her side. Then she was laughing when Eliza wrapped her in a hug. “I’ve missed you too, my friend,” Scarlett murmured, holding her just as tightly. Her silver gaze flicked to Razik. “Dragon prick.”
“Pain in my ass,” he said tightly.
Scarlett stepped back, Eliza moving to hug Sorin next.
And then they were all just…staring at each other.
Tessa and Theon were here, of course. Axel and Kat as well, since they were in the Underground.
But the ones Luka was focused on were his parents.
This was likely the last time the four of them would stand in a room together. A blooded family he’d just found, but was now being separated once more.
Introductions were done, and when the room fell quiet once more, Razik was the one who reached for a pack on the floor. “Keep that sword somewhere safe.”
Luka swallowed his amusement. “We have it covered. Thanks for the concern.”
“What sword?” Scarlett demanded.
“They found a spirit sword,” Eliza sighed. “Razik is upset he didn’t find it first.”
“I’m not upset,” Razik growled.
“Why?” Scarlett asked, her nose scrunching in confusion. “It’s not a bowl.”
“By the gods,” Razik muttered. “Can we go?”
“Razik.”
The male stilled at the sound of Xan’s voice. Slowly, he dragged his eyes to where they stood.
Aiyana had tears tracking down her face as she watched her older son, that she hadn’t seen in centuries, prepare to walk away from her.
“I need more time,” Razik finally said.
Xan nodded, pulling Aiyana into his side. “I understand.”
“I’m not saying it’ll be never, but?—”
“We’ll be waiting. When you are ready,” Xan said somberly.
Razik nodded stiffly, and Luka watched their mother pull from Xan’s hold and approach him. She reached up, clasping his shoulders as she said softly, “I never stopped fighting for you. I won’t stop now.”
A muscle feathered in Razik’s jaw, and she pulled him into a hug before pressing a chaste kiss to his cheek. “We’ll wait for you.” She stepped back and turned to Eliza. “Thank you for loving him so deeply where we failed.”
Eliza gave her a sad smile, glancing up at her mate. “I think we’ll meet again.”
“Thank you both,” Theon said, stepping forward and holding out a hand to Eliza. “Your aid was invaluable.”
“More helpful than when they were here, I’m sure,” Razik said, jerking his chin to Scarlett and Sorin.
“Not now, Raz,” Eliza grumbled, elbowing him in the ribs as she bent to grab her pack, but Razik was snatching it from her fingers a second later.
A jolt of heartache down the bond had Luka turning to find Tessa and Tristyn off by themselves, talking in low murmurs. She was crying, and he was thumbing at the tears before he pulled her into his chest.
“You’ll find her,” she murmured into his shirt. “I know you will.”
