“Tell me what you know,” Mikah demanded, switching to drill sergeant quicker than she had ever thought possible.
“There was a struggle, and I found this,” Carter held out a piece of cloth. “I don’t know who’s scent this is, but it isn’t Jason’s.”
Mikah sniffed the cloth. “Motherfucker. How is this even possible?” Shock flooded her veins, her heart stopped.
“What is it?” Cam asked.
“Not what—who. Take a whiff,” she held the piece of cloth out to Cam.
“Shane!”
“Who the hell is Shane?” Carter asked.
Mikah was well and truly stunned. How could he still be alive? She watched Griffin’s men drag his dead body away.
“He’s Mikah’s ex-piece of shit. We thought he was dead,” Cam’s voice pulled her from her thoughts.
“Why would he attack Jason? Do you have any idea where he would have taken Jason?”
Mikah struggled for breath, bile rose in the back of her throat. Cloudiness fogged her brain and for the first time in her life, Mikah felt like she might pass out.
“Mikah, Mikah. Are you okay?” Cam pulled a chair over for her to sit in before her legs gave out.
She gasped, trying to suck air into her lungs.“How could this have happened?”she asked her wolf.
Her wolf didn’t respond, instead, she tried to focus her thoughts on their mate.
“Mikah, talk to me,” Cam begged.
“The dream!” Of course, why hadn’t she thought of it before?
“What dream?” Cam asked.
“I had a couple of dreams with Shane in them.” She shook her head in disbelief. “I didn’t think too much of them. He was alive and trying to kill me. The dream was the same each time. It never changed.”
“Was there anyone else in the dream with you?” Carter asked.
“Not—” Mikah paused as the images from her dream flashed through her mind. “I’m not sure. I can’t see anyone else, but it doesn’t mean I’m alone with Shane. The room he’s in is dark. I see pillars lining the center of the room. I know where he is!”
