The dream started out like the one she’d had the night before, where she had confronted Shane. This time, the only difference was that Mikah knew she was dreaming, knew what Shane’s moves were before he even made them. When he reached for her throat, she easily avoided his grasp twisting to the left, countering him with a punch to the throat.

His fist flew toward her face. She ducked and punched. This time, landing a blow directly to his ribs. A growl rose from his throat, but his moves never changed from the previous dream. He swiped at her stomach, his hands had partly shifted to claws, and missed.

“Why do you have to be such a bitch? I’m clean now. I want to fix things between us. I’m the only one who can love you the way you deserve to be,” Shane argued.

“Love me? Are you fucking kidding me? What we had wasn’t love. It was you being a dick and treating me like shit because you felt like it. That’s not love.”

She didn’t want to fight with Shane. All she wanted to be was left alone. “Shane, I loved you once, but that time has passed on. You’ve passed on. I’m not sure why you’re still invading my dreams, begging to be with me again, but it can never be. We can never be. I’m sorry.”

With that last goodbye, she pulled her majik to her and opened her eyes.

“Christ, I hate dreams,” she said aloud as she rolled over to look at her alarm clock, knowing damn well she’d never get back to sleep.

Mikah dragged her ass through the door of the diner, needing about twelve more hours of sleep. The dream with Shane had left her more unsettled than the night before when she’d inadvertently pulled Jason into her apartment. Why did she keep dreaming about her dead ex-boyfriend?

“Speak of the devil,”she said to her wolf.

Jason was perched at the counter laughing with Cam and her mate. A pang of jealousy spread through her body, stunning her. It made no sense, she barely knew the guy. Why would she be jealous of her mate talking to Cam—or anyone else for that matter?

“Mine!”her wolf shouted in her head.

A growl rose up from her throat, surprising her. Cam turned to look at her, shocked by the warning. Jason, on the other hand, looked at her as if she were his next meal. His gaze slowly traveled up and down her body. She felt like he was undressing her with his eyes.

“See something you like?” Mikah couldn’t help but blurt out the sassy question. Any other time she would have kept her mouth closed, but something about the way he looked at her lit her blood on fire—and not in a bad way. Remnants of her mating dream passed through her mind. The weight of him pressed up against her when she pulled him through her dream. She wanted more—a lot more, but there wasn’t a snowball’s chance in hell she’d admit it to him or anyone else!

“Not really. I like you better naked.”

Cam gasped and giggled.

Mikah’s chin nearly hit the floor. “Well, at least you’re honest.”

“You have no idea,” Jason said.

“Why are you here so early?” Cam asked suspiciously.

Because she had to get the hell out of her apartment. Because she was climbing the walls. Because she was hoping she’d run into Jason somewhere along the way. It was a small town after all.

“No reason,” Mikah hung up her jacket and grabbed an apron.

“Lie.”

So freaking what if it was a lie? Like she was going to tell Jason or Cam the truth? Uh, no.

“I—uh didn’t see you at all yesterday. Are you getting all settled in?” Mikah said to Jason, unsure of what she was supposed to say to him.Oh, hi. Wanna get it on?

“I figured I’d give you some time to miss me. Did it work?” Jason stood and handed her a single red rose.

“Hardly. I have better things to do with my life than sit around wondering where you are or what you are doing.”

“Lie. That’s exactly what you did,”her wolf reminded her.

“Uh-huh. Sure, you do.”

Apparently, she needed to work on her lying skills. It was almost as if Jason didn’t believe her lies. The nerve of that man.

“Whatever! So, is this going to be a daily occurrence?”Please say yes.
