To do so would mean giving up her freedom and that was unacceptable.

“You really expect me to believe that you’re not into me?” Jason laughed at her absurd claim.

“Believe what you want, it really doesn’t matter to me.”

“Lie!”

Her wolf was right, it absolutely mattered to her. It was imperative that he like her, that he want her.

“You are the most absurd and stubborn woman I’ve ever met! Has anyone ever told you that?”

“Nope. Not a single person.”

“Lie. You are told that at least three times a day.”

“You hush!”Mikah warned her wolf.

“One of these day’s I’m going to bend you over my knee and spank those lies right out of you.”

“Threats will get you nowhere.” She didn’t need her wolf to tell her that her last statement was a total lie. Threats of a spanking would get him everywhere. She could almost feel the sting of his palm across her behind.

“You like the sound of that. Don’t you?”

“Not one bit.” She wanted to wipe that smug-ass smirk off his face.

“I saw the way your eyes lit up at the thought of you being bent over my knee. My mate likes that. Nice.”

“No, she doesn’t.”

“Lie!”her wolf wanted to scream out her frustrations.

She totally loved the thought of it. Hell, even her wolf liked the idea of surrendering to their mate.

“Uh-huh. Sure.”

He caught on quick. A little too quick for Mikah’s comfort.

With more regret than she’d ever felt before, she turned to Jason. “You need to go.”

Which translated toplease stay—please see beyond my lies and pain.

“I’ll go for now, but don’t think I’m going far. We’ll finish this later,” he warned.

Mikah wanted to weep as she watched her mate walk out the door. Too afraid that she’d call out for him to come back or worse yet, chase after him, she held her breath until she heard him jog down the stairs and exit her building.

“What is wrong with you? Why did you make him leave?”her wolf whined.

“I told you, I’m not ready for what he is after. I’m not sure that I will ever be.”

And that was the absolute truth. What Jasonhad asked for—offered was a lifetime commitment. Mikah had problems committing to what she wanted for dinner. The idea of forging ahead blindly into a relationship with a stranger.

Umm—no.
