Jason’s attention shifted to a small female. The most gorgeous creature on four legs he’d ever seen. Perfect patterns of golden swirls covered her snowy-white fur. Haunting ice-blue eyes met and held his. His gums itched, wanting to pierce the soft spot on her neck, claiming her as his mate.
“Mine!”He tried to take a step forward only to be blocked by the Alpha. His gums pulled back from his teeth, a vicious snarl erupting from his snout.
“I see you found your mate.”
Not a question. A statement. A fact. One he felt soul deep. Jason knew it as did his wolf.
“According to our laws. She is mine. I want what is mine.”
Never before had he been so adamant. So forceful—especially to an Alpha who had the ability to end his life with the blink of an eye.
“I don’t doubt the truth of your words, but Mikah is a member of this pack and under my protection. You are not—unless you’d like to change that.”
Mikah. He loved the way her name rolled off the tip of his tongue. It was perfect, just like the beautiful temptress the Gods had created for him and him alone.
Four wolves surrounded Jason, blocking his path in either direction. Haunches up, heads down and in attack position. The warning they sent was quite clear. If he dared to make so much as one wrong move, they’d fuck his world up.
“Choose or leave.”
Jason glanced back to Carter who whined in response. Once again, he eyed the female in question. His wolf was ready to jump at the bone the Alpha had thrown his way. Join the pack. It sounded like an easy decision—all things considered, but it was a big decision. One that would lead him a step closer to his mate, but what else? What did it mean in the long run to become a member of the Twisted Tail pack?
His wolf didn’t care, he would make any commitment needed to get to his mate—Jason not so much. He wanted to make the choice. He wanted answers before he could commit to anything or anyone for the rest of his life.
But his wolf…his wolf had other ideas. Any will he’d once had of his own shattered in a heartbeat. No longer destined to roam the earth alone, he accepted the Alpha’s will—his command.
