“Did you actually hear him say I don’t want you?” Calder asked.
“He didn’t have to say the words. I don’t know what I would’ve done if he’d actually straight up said that.”
“I know for a fact that Ethan very much wants you.”
“What are you saying?” Cam’s heart skipped a beat. Calder must know much more than he’d let on.
“I’m saying that maybe the reason he left wasn’t because of your mating, but because of something else.”
“What reason could he possibly have?”
“He has a lot of good reasons.”
What the hell was that supposed to mean? What could be a good reason for him to feel the way he did about their mating?
“Look, Calder. If there’s something I need to hear just tell me already.”
It was Calder’s turn to sigh. “If my mate was in danger, and I thought leaving was the only thing that could keep her safe, I wouldn’t even bat an eyelash about leaving. I’d be out the door quicker than you could whistle Dixie.”
Cam stared at Calder open mouthed. “I don’t understand how him leaving would keep me safe. And from whom? Who is after him?”
She nearly jumped to her feet with the thought of Ethan being in trouble. The idea alone startled her wolf into making her first appearance in days.
“It’s not my story to tell, but if you think back over the memories you received of his when you completed the mating ritual, you should be able to piece it all together.”
“Ugh!”
