“I’ve only ever had the ones in the plastic, from the store.”

I stop eating and stare at her. “Oh no,” I say, pulling my phone out of my back pocket. I am on a mission to correct that error.

Dialing Jillian’s number I place it to my ear, while Camryn watches me with a smile.

“Hey lovely, what’s up?”

“What are you doing in the morning?” I ask without saying hello.

“I don’t know, but I have a feeling you do.” She knows me well.

“Camryn has only ever eaten a store-bought cinnamon roll,” I say and I can almost imagine her eyes crossing and her nostrils flaring in disgust. I’m not playing when I say Jilly is a dream baker. She can make anything, truly.

“I’ll be at your place by seven, with all the fixings. You have the coffee on.”

“Do you want to stay over?” I ask, it’s been a bit since I’ve had a good old-fashioned girls’ night. “I was thinking maybe we could show Camryn exactly what a girls’ night entails.”

“Sure.” She laughs. “I’m always up for a movie, with popcorn and pizza, accompanied by lots of laughs.” She makes it sound like a question but I know it’s more of a list of demands.

“Maybe we should extend the invite to all the girls.”

“As if Brant is going to go without Sutton for a night.” Jillian laughs knowingly.

“True, but she can always come over in the morning for breakfast.”

I glance up, just as my dad and Bennett enter the kitchen, both grabbing a cookie of their own.

“You send out the mass message, I will stop off on the way home from dad’s to get everything we’ll need for tonight.” I glance at Bennett and he is watching me, while nibbling on his cookie. “Tell them all to bring blankets, and we’ll camp out in the living room and veg out on junk food.”

“I’ll make sure that we go with Camryn friendly movies,” Jillian says, before saying a quick goodbye.

“A girls’ night,” Bennett says with a smile.

“Yep.” I nudge Camryn with my shoulder and she giggles. “This little lady has never had a cinnamon roll that wasn’t in a box wrapped in cellophane,” I say, widening my eyes. “Jilly is going to make hers tomorrow.”

“You are in luck,” Bennett tells Camryn. “Jillian makes the best cinnamon rolls, even better than my mom. I’d never tell her that, but it’s true.”

My dad grabs Camryn up in his arms and carries her off. I can hear her giggles echoing from the living room as he tells her how lucky she is and that she better save him one.

“A girls’ night,” Bennett repeats, walking around the end of the counter, stepping up in front of me. I turn, my back pressed to the counter, as he places one hand on each side of me. “I think you ladies are going to have a fun night. I’ll admit I’m a little disappointed that I can’t sneak over and curl up with you. I’ve gotten used to hanging out with my girls.”

His girls.

“One night,” I tell him as I tilt my head up and look at him. “Maybe you can go visit your brother.”

He chuckles. “Do you actually think Brant is gonna let Sutton out of his sight for an entire night?”

“He’s a big boy, he’ll survive.”

“Oh sweetheart.” He smiles leaning in to kiss me. Barely pulling back I feel the tickle of his lips as he teases me a little. “You still haven’t figured out how stubborn us O’Shay men are?”

“Oh I have,” I tell him with a matching smile. “But you should have figured out by now, that we are just as stubborn.”

He holds my stare, and I don’t crack. I must say I am pretty proud of myself in that moment. I’m learning just how to break him down.

“I’ll be over bright and early for my cinnamon rolls.” He kisses me, keeping me from saying anything in return. So I let him have this one, honestly I’m just enjoying his attention and his need to be near me.

Enjoying it, without becoming reliant on it.
