“Six,” I say, pointing to myself. “So if the two of you are thinking of making any kind of move toward those women you might want to rethink that decision. My brother, the big ass dude over there that looks like he’s ten seconds from ripping off your head, is barely hanging on. Me, I’m just getting here, and I haven’t been subjected to the display they have. I’m still building up to the point where I want to beat your ass for looking at our ladies. So this is me giving you both a heads-up. Take it as you want, but my advice, I’d find yourselves a new interest."
The two of them turn around and I know I’ve gotten through to them.
As I rejoin the guys, Finn offers me a fist bump and I finally order myself a beer.
“What did you say to them?” Brantley asks from my side.
“I told them that you’re unstable and have killed before. I told them we have several acres of land, a backhoe, and a concrete truck. They got the point.”
He chuckles and I grab my beer turning around to face the ladies.
“They all drinking tonight?”
“They’ve been doing shots. Apparently Adley passed some big exam she was stressing over and Lexi got the news that Camryn will be with her permanently as of Monday. Then Jillian had Kendall deliver all her ex’s shit to him in the form of dragging it behind her tow truck.”
I am still focusing on the fact that Lexi got good news and I hadn’t heard from her.
“She just got the call twenty minutes ago, when she was on the dance floor,” Brantley tells me like he can read my thoughts. “She knew you were on your way here.”
I nod, holding my beer out to him. “Can you hold on to this?”
He takes it and I start walking toward the dance floor.
We said slow, and it’s been weeks. But after last night, the shift between Lexi and I, it has to mean something.
Fuck slow, I wanted her. I wanted it all.
CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
Lexi
I feela strong set of arms wrap around me from behind, before I’m gently pulled back into a solid chest. I don’t even have to look, I already know it’s Bennett. His cologne, the manly feeling of his embrace, I know it. I’ve committed it to memory so long ago.
“You smell amazing,” Bennett whispers near my ear just before he starts to sway taking me with him. “I hear you got some good news tonight?”
I turn in his arms and look up at him smiling. “I wanted to be the one to tell you.”
“You can tell me now.”
“The fun in that is gone now that you know.” I pout and he leans in kissing me, making me forget all about the disappointment. I’m thrown back into last night when he practically ran out of my apartment.
I’m so lost, forgetting all about anyone else around us. I feel like her and I are the only ones in the room.
“I’m in love with you, Lexi,” Bennett says, cupping my face in his hands. “You are incredible, you are my calm.” He rests his forehead to mine. “I took it all for granted before, but you have always offered me that. I’ve always felt calm with you.”
His words settle deep in my stomach and I attempt to look down to pull myself together.
Bennett quickly places his finger under my chin, lifting so that we are once again looking at each other.
Dragging his thumb over my lower lip, they part.
“I was an idiot,” he whispers. “I never want to be that blind again.” Leaning in he kisses my lips softly. “I see you Lexi, you are all I see.”
Bennett stands before me,reaching out pushing the hair off my shoulder. I slide back and he places his knee next to me, leaning over to press a kiss on my shoulder, along my collarbone, and up the side of my neck.
Every place he touches and kisses feels heated.
Combing his fingers through my hair, he cups the back of my neck, turning his body to sit next to me.
