“If you’re done with your little show, weare going to head on in and eat,” Kaleb said, pulling open the door.

DeeDee pushed together two tables to fit the five of us and disappeared to attend to other tables. The guys and Cami continued their conversation, something about jelly-filled cupcakes, as Grayson turned toward me.

He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and asked, “How are your lessons going?”

“I made it here, didn’t I?”

“That you did. So your precision is improving?”

“She’ll be a pro at getting to and from work by the end of the weekend,” Cami said.

“We’ll have you completely moved in by—” Bear stopped, a growl filling the air at something behind me.

Twisting, I noted Kenny was seated on the other side of the diner.

“It’s fine, B,” Grayson said, bringing his glass of water to his lips.

“He’s a prick,” Kaleb said.

Grayson chuckled. “That he is.”

“Did he even apologize to you guys?” Cami asked.

“No,” I said.

“I’ve learned that sometimes in life, you don’t get apologies.” Grayson shrugged and pulled me closer. “You learn to move on without one.”

I nodded. “On the plus side, I heard he got a talking-to from Mac. Something about being a better man and learning the meaning of no.”

Cami leaned forward and lowered her voice. “I heard from Mrs. Troop that his mom lit into him about his interspecies bigotry.”

“I’m not surprised. She came by my shop and apologized. Wanted me to know she’d never taught him that sort of hate.”

“Really?” I asked, surprised.

“Was she the one who ordered a new living room set and chandelier?” Kaleb asked.

My eyes widened when Grayson nodded. His work was handmade with his expertise skills and came with a hefty price tag. “Guilt shopping?”

“Probably, but she sent her friends in too,” Kaleb said.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked.

Grayson grinned. “Baby, I did. I said I sold a bunch of things and was set through—”

“No,” I hissed. “You didn’t tell me it washismom.”

Grayson shrugged. “Because it didn’t matter. It’s time to move forward with my life. It’s all I’ve wanted since returning. I’ve got my girl, my friends, and my business. The rest is just noise.”

I melted into his kiss the moment he captured my mouth with his. Everything around us disappeared as I focused on the man I loved.

Life didn’t always go the way I wanted, but it went the way it was meant to go.

I had love, friends, and a life I could welcome children into. Like Grayson had said, the rest was just noise.
