A sweet smile tugged at his lips, and he rested his cheek on top of my head. “Baby, I can assure you the feeling is mutual.”

Chapter 11

A week of dates, phone calls, and texts had softened my heart to Grayson. Gray Designs opened two nights ago, tearing down the last wall from around my heart. He could tell me he wouldn’t leave, but setting down roots with his business had eased my anxiety.

For opening night, I’d hired Cami to create a variety of desserts to entice the citizens of Assjacket to come inside. A few more people had shown up than we had expected. He’d even sold a beautifully carved buffet table to Jeeves and Sassy when they’d come in.

“Did you sell anything today?” I asked as he drove me to his home.

Excitement bubbled up in the cabin of the truck as he pressed a kiss to the knuckles of the hand he held. “Remember the coffee table that opened up and was wired with lights?”

“Yes! I want one of those for my blankets,” I said, thinking of the farmhouse-style piece I envisioned in my living room.

“Well, DeeDee came by and bought it aftersomeonewas talking it up at the diner.”

I laughed. “She stole it from me!”

“I’ll make you whatever you want.”

“Well, I thought you were making me food. I definitely want food.”

Grayson parked the truck as he chuckled. “My girl’s always hungry.”

We grabbed the grocery bags from the truck bed, and I followed him up the porch steps. He flipped on the lights with his elbow and kicked the door shut behind us.

Looking around, I noticed how quiet it was. “Where are Kaleb and Bear?”

“I told them to get lost.”

My eyes widened. “Gray! That wasn’t nice.”

Grayson pulled out tortillas from a bag as he shrugged. “I wanted to be alone with you. They made plans to eat at the diner and then hit up the bar after. I promise you, they’ll be fine.”

Shaking my head, I emptied the other bags. We worked together browning the meat, dicing veggies, and rolling the enchiladas.

When my stomach growled loudly, he laughed. “When was the last time you ate?”

“Lunch.”

“I’m going to build you a cabinet to store snacks, so you don’t wither away.”

I smiled, something I’d been doing a lot of since he’d come back into my life. “I wouldn’t say no to such a gift.”

“Flowers, food, and books. I know how to make my girl happy.”

Shrugging, I said, “I’m a simple girl.”

Grayson pinned me to the counter, one of his thighs pressing against my center. “Baby, you’reanythingbut simple.”

It dawned on me how utterly alone we were in the house. Dipping his head, he greedily kissed me as I pressed against him, needing to be as close as I could. My hips moved on their own as I rubbed my bundle of nerves against his thigh.

When the oven beeped, notifying us it was preheated, we jumped. My heart raced, my lips tingled, and my girly bits ached like they’d never had before.

Grayson pressed his forehead to mine as he eased his hold. “We should put the enchiladas in.”

“Mhmm,” I muttered, unable to form words after his drugging kisses.

A satisfied grin filled his face when I moved my hands to the counter and held on until my legs quit wobbling. “When you’ve found your land legs, do you think you could set the table?”
