“I’m sure he wasn’t trying to. You two were thick as thieves.”

Pressing my forehead to her shoulder, I released a shaky breath. “I’m not sure I’d survive it if he left again. Not after…”

Cami pulled me back enough to study my face. “After what?”

I chewed on the inside of my cheek until I tasted blood. “He keeps saying I’m his mate, that he came back for me.”

Cami blinked slowly, and her lips tipped up into a big smile. “What? Why am I hearing about this now and not right after?”

“Your mate is here,” Rita announced, a second before a knock sounded on the door.

“Breathe.” Cami turned me and gave me a shove toward the door.

I focused on each step so I wouldn’t fall on my face. When I reached the door, I found Rita cleaning her face.

“About time,” Rita snapped.

I heard Cami join the room me as I opened the door, revealing the three Shifters.

“Hi.”

“Heeellllloooo,” Rita purred as she wound around Grayson’s legs in a figure eight.

Grayson chuckled. “Hey, Rita. These are my friends, Kaleb and Bear. Guys, this is Rita.”

“Damn, maybe I should be a familiar,” Cami muttered.

“And I think you both have met that brat,” Grayson said, shooting Cami a wink.

“Come in.” I discreetly wiped my damp palms on my black leggings.

“Damn, Aileen, it smells hella good,” Bear said, his nose raised in the air.

Grayson offered me a bouquet of wildflowers and pressed his lips to my temple. “Smells really good.” He pulled back enough to let his gaze move down my body in a sensual caress.

My cheeks flushed, unsure if he meant dinner or me.

“Is that lasagna?” Kaleb asked, his tongue flicking out.

“Yes. We can eat now if you’re hungry,” I said as Grayson tucked me against his side.

Cami raised a brow at the flowers before waving for the others to follow. “They’re Shifters, Aileen, of course they’re hungry.”

I’d always thought my dining table was too big, but with the five of them, it was almost too small. Grayson sat to my left and Cami to my right.

Heads bent, the men ate quickly and looked around sheepishly.

“Still hungry?” I asked, amused.

“We’re good,” Grayson said, offering the other two pointed looks. “Dinner was fantastic, thank you.”

“Anyone else want donuts?” Cami asked, pushing back from the table.

Kaleb and Bear raised their hands quickly.

I laughed behind my hand. “There’s also some ice cream in the freezer if you want to get it, Cam.”

“We’ll give you a hand,” Bear said, his chair scraping back as he pushed to his feet.
